rescuekitty September 15th, 2005, 11:13 AM Well, I've been wanting to adopt a puppy for a while. I've been in touch with a few rescue places, and they are all starting to be swamped with puppies right now. I was told that's normal this time of year.
Anyway, I'm going tomorrow to look at a puppy that is not too far from me. She's supposed to be a Border Collie/Hound. To me, her face is shaped like a lab's, but I might just be imagining it. There is no way to tell for sure anyway. I'm not picky about breed, just needed something young to get used to all the other animals on the farm. Older dogs that haven't been raised around horses and other livestock often have a problem with getting used to them. Otherwise I would have given an older dog a chance in a heartbeat.
So, let me know what you guys think. She's 6 weeks old. Here's a pic(or an attempt at one! I've never posted a picture before.. ;) )
Roxy's_MA September 15th, 2005, 11:15 AM I think she looks like a total sweetheart  I really like her white paws.
happycats September 15th, 2005, 11:57 AM She is adorable!!! she looks like a Newfie / shepherd, to me
BMDLuver September 15th, 2005, 12:20 PM If she has 4 paws with white, has a few white hairs on her tail and I see she has the cross, she may very well be a Bernese cross. If so, will be excellent with horses. :D 6 weeks is a bit young still to be taken away from siblings..
Prin September 15th, 2005, 12:23 PM Well, if she lets people hold her like that without squirming, according to Stanley Coren, that's a very very good sign! :)
And on top of that she's a cutie! You'll have to wait and see what the mix ends up when she is fully grown, but you can be assured she will be a big doggy. (I see the dobie spots)
rescuekitty September 15th, 2005, 01:10 PM I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds her adorable! ;)
I just talked to her foster mom, and she said that she is a pretty petite girl. Smaller than her sister that is being fostered with her. She is convinced I'll fall completely in love with her, and she'll be just what I want. She said she listens very well, and is doing amazing for such a young baby.
I know she is a little young, but the reason they are already available is probably something about the owners not wanting the puppies, since the rescue got them all. They are being fostered, and she is only living with one sister at the moment, who is already adopted and will be leaving soon. I should also say, they aren't positive about her birth date. They are guessing about 6 weeks.
The lady from the rescue says that she trusts the owners, and is pretty sure she is Border Collie/Hound. What kind of hound though is a big question, which could account for the colouring. I can't think of the hound that is often coloured that way off the top of my head though. Her siblings all look like they are different breeds, so there may be more than two breeds in there.. who knows!
Lucky Rescue September 15th, 2005, 01:20 PM For sure she's 100% CUTE CUTE CUTE!!:)
She has Rottie colouring, except for the white feeties, but impossible to know at that age what she'll mature to be.
As for the owners - people who indescriminately breed their dogs then dump the whole litter at a too young age are NOT people whose word I would trust about anything.

I agree, but she does believe them... Who knows though, they may not know what their dogs really are either. Maybe they're crosses to begin with?
