TPLO Didn't go well

Ruby had tplo surgery 8 weeks ago, she is doing terrible. I was told this was the best surgery for a large dog. The nylon loop surgery would not last long with her size. She may have an infection in the bone which has pushed the screws and plate, so it is almost all healed in the wrong position. She now has to go back next week to have the plate removed, leg repositioned and an outer brace installed to keep her leg in place while she heals. She also broke the other ligament last week and will have the nylon surgery on that one once she has healed.

I went to 2 different vets before agreeing to this surgery, they all agreed it was the best thing. I feel so bad for my poor doggie, I thought that I had been making the best, most informed decision about her care, and it seems to have made it much worse.

Any other similar experiences?

I hope all goes well. Did a specialist perform the surgery? If not, I would try to arrange for a specialist for next procedure.

I took Ruby to 1 of the 3 board certified specialists in Ottawa. I was told that this place had the most experience, training and best results. I feel I don't have much choice but to let him try to repair what went wrong. I do think though, that if there is an infection deep in the bone and none on the surface, they should bear some kind of responsibility. Ruby did her part, Elizabethian collar, cooped up in a crate for 8 weeks. Nothing showed to the surface until week 8, small blister looking spot. That's when they did exray's and saw everthing was pushed around. Everything up until then looked like it was healing wonderfully.
