Walking my Puppy

Hello everyone.

I recently got a puppy and was wondering how long and often I should walk her a day. I don't want to over-exert her or cause her injury...any suggestions?

Thanks.

Very young puppies (9-12 weeks) shouldn't be walked very long. Until they've had their 2nd set of shots, I wouldn't take them far from the yard. They definately shouldn't go near other dog's poop, or even other dogs.

Young puppies should really engage in lots of play, and just get used to the leash. Once a bit older, short walks are okay.

Start by walking around the block and build up the distance and time as puppy becomes older. Don't run puppy on hard surfaces.
