Introducing to cats to each other

hello all!

My girlfriend and I each have a cat, mine is female, her's male. We are moving in together today to a new apartment unfamiliar to each cat. I am wondering in anyone has any advice on how to introduce the cats to each otherr. Is it best to let them hiss at each other? Keep them seperate for a while? My cat has a bit of an attitude problem, she's small, so i think she feels threatened easily.

Any advice would be great, this has been stressing me out to no end! lol

The fact that they are male/female is good and they must be spayed/neutered. The most important thing is to never rush introductions.
