Anyone know the names of any of those viruses that stop you from getting to websites? I know there are a few, and there are some websites that you have to go to, to run scanners to see if you have it and to get rid of it.
A co-worker is unable to get to any websites, yet his highspeed connection is working and such. He has no virus scanner or spyware detector, and I can't get on the web to download anything for him. I tried some of the websites I knew, but nothing.
Any ideas?

Nope. Not wireless. connection appears to be there, but can't get through to any sites. He did not have a virus scanner or firewall, so I'm sure something snuck through.

Download and run Spybot Search & Destroy. From what I've seen it is the best...and its free. Sounds like you may have to download it on a different computer and copy it over.
Everyone should have a firewall. I run PCillin Internet Security at home and haven't had any problems. I heard Norton Internet Security is good as well. I've heard bad things about McAffee.

There are viruses and there are spyware.
For viruses, purchase:
-Symantec
-McAfee
For spyware, use for free:
-Spybot Search & Destroy
-MS AntiSpyware
Be aware that before running anything, make a backup just in case you need a restore. Extremely important step!
Sites could also be blocked by network admin to prevent unwanted browsing. Our company runs weekly update on blocked sites, I'm only at their mercy that I could still come to this board.
