Hello,

I am very intereseted in the raw food diet for my 7 year old Labrador although I do not think I am going to have enough time to make the meals. So instead I am thinking of swithcing him to a healthy all natural dog kibble and adding raw foods 1x a day. Right now he eats 2 cups of Nutro Max a day. Most likely I will feed him a cup of kibble in the morning and then the same at night only adding raw foods to his night time meal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is the best all natural kibble and also on what exacty to add to his night time meal? Recipes are greatly appreciated.

I have heard that you should either feed raw or kibble and not both. The kibble raises the ph in a dog's stomac, and in order to eat raw the dog needs a low ph in his stomac in to kill the bacteria.

Below is a link to a company that makes pre-packaged frozen raw food. They also provide alot of info about a raw diet. The website also lists all the locations you can buy the food.

I too have read that you should either feed kibble or RAW. It has something to do with digestive times. Raw foods are digested quicker I believe.

I can't recommend a human grade dog food. In my research I did find a select few but they are very expensive and hard to find. The only proof that you have that it is human grade is their word.

I can recommend some very good foods. For example, my personal favorite is Solid Gold, Wolf King. It is an all natural food made with bison and salmon. My dogs love it and their fur is beautiful.

Others I have looked into but have not tried myself are Wellness or Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance. Both also have excellent ingredients.

If you are interested in buying pre-packaged raw food there is a company out west that sells it. I do not have the name of the company but I am sure someone here will be able to provide it for you.

My dogs love it and their fur is beautiful I concur. My doggies love the Wolf King. Their fur is unbelievable! So soft and shiny. Every morning they wake us up to eat- still! They have been eating it for months now. They had never reacted to food like this before.

Foods to look into (not completely human grade..):
Wellness (http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/)
Solid Gold (http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/)
Merrick (http://www.merrickpetcare.com/)
Canidae (http://canidae.com/)
Chicken soup for the pet lover's soul (http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/)
Nutro (http://www.nutroproducts.com/)
Eagle Pack (http://www.eaglepack.com/)
Timberwolf Organics (http://www.timberwolforganics.com)

And for the raw and kibble- the raw makes it through without giving the dog salmonella or E coli because it is quickly digested. Kibble slows it down, and bacteria have more time to reproduce, causing serious diarrhea and vomitting if say, Salmonella or E coli are present in the meat you give.

Thanks Prin. I couldn't remember the exact reason.

The link that I posted above is the company out west that makes the raw food. According to the website they now have some vendors of the food out east.
