Looking for chihuahua

August 16th, 2005, 08:23 PM
Hi, I'm new at this. My grandmothers chihuahua died last Monday. She had this one for 16 years. She has outlived about 5 of them now. She is 89 now and is looking for another one. She's hoping to find one over two years old. Any ideas? Grey Bruce area. Checked all the local places around here, but nobody seems to know where to find one. Doesn't have to be a purebred, just one that is around the same size type of thing. Help please.

I think that it might be a wise idea to look for one over 10 years of age. Try to find one.

HI and welcome!

Your grandmother is 89. Are you prepared to take the dog when she can no longer care for it? Are you going to help her with it in the meantime?

IF you adopt a dog, the rescue will want assurance that such an elderly lady can care for a dog, or has help, and someone to take it eventually and keep it for maybe 12 - 16 years if you get a 2 year old.

Canadian Chi Rescue and Transport has some senior Chis who would dearly love a home:)

Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport based in Ottawa, but I think they will arrange transport.

Thank you for that advice, however, the closest one for any small dog was Toronto area. Any other ideas? I've checked Supershopper, pawsrus and here.

Check out the rescue, they may be able to arrange transportation to your grandma.

As for who will take care of this dog should something happen to my Grandmother, well, I guess it would be myself. I have a Maltese that could bug the heck out of it. As for my Grandmother taking care of it, she is very capable of doing so. Not the typical 89 year old.

The Chi rescue also does transport to the right home.

You should contact them. Please don't get a dog from a puppymill or petstore.

Hey that rescue one was great. Hopefully we can find one she likes. I'm taking a liking to Lacey. Hopefully, we can also get her here. Grandma is just totally lost without a dog. Having a Maltese, I know how she feels. Thanks a bunch!!!

I know better than to get one from mills or stores. Just asking for trouble there.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help. Gets very frustrating trying to find the right web page.

You may not be aware then, that Paws R Us is a puppy mill. Do a search on this site and you'll find tons of info. on them and the poor quality dogs they breed. :)

I've checked Supershopper, pawsrus and here.

I don't know what Supershopper is, but it doens't sound very good either....:o

Hey guys, I'd like to thank you for your help since this all started. However I regret to inform that my Grandmother passed away on Saturday. I guess it's a good thing we didn't get too far. It was a shame. She fell right in love with Lacey. Now she's up there with her three previous dogs. I really appreciate everything. Thanks again.
