Crating a second dog

I am getting a new puupy and I already have a 6 year old dog that was never crated? Does crating make sense for the new puppy? It seems cruel to have one dog with free roam and one crated.

Thanks

Remember, dogs don't think like people do. My 7 year old son thinks it is grossly unfair that his 18 year old sister gets to stay up later then he does but so what.

Crating absolutely makes sense for a young puppy. It helps tremendously in housebreaking and chewing on things when you are too busy to keep an eye on it. I would never leave a young pup alone without a crate. As a matter of fact, I crate my older dog when I leave the house.

The dog is a mini-poodle mix, 8 weeks old and should mature to aboput 12 pounds. What size and type of crate do you recommend?

24", block off space right now giving her enough room to stand up, turn around and lay down. As she grows increase space until she uses the whole space.
