vet doesn't know why dog is sick

My one year old golden retriever has been sick for the past few months. He used to be very active and playful. Now he cries out in pain occasionally if you touch him on the face or back, seems very lethargic, eats infrequently, and was vomiting during the first month but has not done so in the past two weeks. He seems to be fine for a few days and then very sick the next few days.

Our vet did a urinalysis and found that he had a kidney infection, which he treated with antibiotics. This has not improved any of the symptoms other than the sensitivity in his back. He also did a spinal x-ray, which was fine, and performed tests for any blockages and kidney failure. All those tests were fine.

He is referring us to a specialist. We are very concerned about our dog and wish we could do find out what is wrong.

My sisters Alaskan Malamute had the same symptoms about a year ago. Her vet told her he just pulled a muscle. After many tests and many specialists, it was finally discovered he had Canine Lupus. He is on medication now and is feeling much better. It is very rare in dogs, so maybe have your vet check that out too. Good luck!!
