Mini Dachshund has very low energy

August 2nd, 2005, 03:23 PM
I have a new litter of mini dachshund puppies they are 5 weeks old. we had 8 to begin with. all of them seemed healthy and were eating and completly weened. This batch had 3 that were smaller than the others. I always watch out for the runts as they seem to have to fight harder to get their food and will get trampled by the bigger brothers and sisters. We came home from an afternoon outing with the kids last Saturday to find 2 of the runts lifeless one was already gone and the other one was pretty limp. I started giving him water then milk with a dropper and after several hours he was up on his own again. However he still(3 days later) still seems very weak. he sleeps all the time. I have to wake him up to eat. there is no vomiting and no diarrea. He is eating solid foods although not alot. This puppy is half the size of the others (except the other runt who seems fine and full of energy) He has also been wormed about a week before this happened. Are there any suggestions?

Take pup to the vet.
