She was about 5'5", Asian, short hair with a tatoo on her forearm, and she was walking a brown pittie by the court house on Bay street by city hall about 6:10 on Friday. I walked by her while I was on my cell phone, and I said to her, "He's a good looking dog". I felt bad, because she looked like she was tensing up when I was coming near, and when I said something, I thought she might have winced. I think she may have thought I said something bad (aren't we all a little on edge these days?), and I felt bad because I was hoping to give her a warm fuzzy (as I try to whenever I see anyone walking thier pittie), and I think I had the opposite effect.
Anyway, if this sounds like anyone you know, please let them know!

lol, your so funny schwinn! She must have thought you were trying to pick her up. It seems as if she gave you the 'don't even think about it' look.
But don't be discouraged as us pittie wners love it when people come up to us and are not afraid of our dogs.

No, I know how the girls react when they think I'm trying to pick them up. Usually they talk to me...of course, most of the words only have four letters...
I know how I feel when people look negatively at Daisy, and I guess because she isn't pure pit we haven't had the same problems as some others, but when I'm in TO, I always try to make sure I let the pitty owners how good looking thier pooch is. Usually I get a surprised look with a thank you, but I don't think this person heard exactly what I said, so I felt bad if they thought it was one more jerk making an ignorant comment. I wanted her to know it was a jerk making a nice comment for once! ;)

I had a neighbour who owns a Pitty & a Dobe suggest that my dog (not a Pitty) might be 'dangerous'. He's not. Sheesh! you'd think that 'underdog' owners would not indulge in idle speculation about other people's dogs without even meeting the dog...
(IMHO, these people have some human aggression & dominance problems to work out. I intend to avoid them, esp. if they are waking their 2 dogs. Bad dog parents = Bad Dogs, sometimes.)
Anyway, IMHO...we can't win. Bill 132 has messed up the psychy of Pitty owners, made us all a bit paranoid, & made the bad owners worse.

Nice of you to be so concerned Schwinn, I live and work near there, infact I work in a mostly Asian Comuninty Centre so Il keep my eyes open, but really dont let it bother you. In any given day i probably recieve 25 comments on my dog. most of them are positive but unless someone says something really MEAN or really NICE I dont give it much thought...In that populated of an area she would get even more comments than that and its possible that she didn't speak English. Heres a NICE one that stands out... This week an older woman, yes older than me, LOL hmm shouldnt have made that birthday confession ha ha , asked to pat Rocky, I said sure...as she was patting him she told me she makes a point of patting all of the pit bulls she sees! She was out with hubby for a walk...looking for pit bulls to pat...guess MB really didn't do the job he thought he did!

Well, it wasn't keeping me up at night, but given all the bad stories I hear about you city folk, and the fact that I figured anyone who knew her would know right away by the tatoo I'd give it a shot. I don't think I'm an intimidating looking guy, but I've been told that sometimes I can be. If she didn't hear me, that's okay, but I didn't want what was supoosed to be a positive to be a negative. I walk down Bay every day, and it was the first time I've seen her. I also felt bad because I wanted to pet him, because he seemed a happy pup!

oh thats nice, nah schwinn you will probably find after she saw you she thought about what you said and realised you were being nice, i bet she did and i bet it made her smile too, dotn worry im sure she thought about it and realised later....
you get 25 comeents or compliments aday? oh wow!!
no one ever compliments charlie, never do ppl speak to us, its usually 'grab your children, or your sausages or whateveryou ahve, she looks crazy' or the old 'oh gee your dogs fat' or the truly stupid 'is that dog a dingo, that dog looks like a dingo' (no shes not a dingo you stupid idiot, obviously never seen a dingo) truly i get that impression, ppl seem to cross the street when they se us, no one talks to us,not even other dog owners, nup, every one hates us i suppose, :o
and she is such a good girl, she walks right beside my knee, never really moves, and does all i say, oh its not fair, i must look a right nutter, poor charlie got stuck with the wrong humans, oh boo hooo. im feeling all sorry for myself and charlie now.....
but there is one nice lady, but her dog is totally crazy and psycho so i suppose no one talks to her except me anyways,,,, oh i wnat someone to compliment my dog (god im so self obsessed)
oh well i feel sorry for myself now, and back to schwinn dotn worry im totally sure she got ya mate, it probably was jsut a shock for her as im sure she enver gets compliments either..... and either way good karma to you my friend for being a nice person (you will eb a nice coppa too, i suppose there are some out there eh) :highfive:

Mel, I cant believe no one talks to you! People in Toronto generally do talk to one another if theres a dog with them! Sometimes I initiate the comments, if they are giving me a dirty look Ill just smile and say hes a "good boy" or something non offensive, other times I just roll my eyes, but I thought alll the Aussies were a friendy lot. Seriously people always talk to others when they have there pet with them here... : ..and T. doesnt have a very friendly reputation!
August 4th, 2005, 06:37 PM
nah i would never say aussies are an overtly friendly bunch ,well fi yoru a local im sure they are..... in general were pretty friendly, in that aussies generally help out if your in need, and you will often get a wink and a joke, but not doggy friendly no....
no one likes big dogs here, ppl will never speak to charlie and never ever do ppl ask to have a pat or if she is friendly... generally if you meet anotherdog owner the only thing they say is 'are you friendly' if yo usay no they og away, if you say yes they will pass.....
oh one day we were passing a big group of walkers wiht as few dogs, so to give them room charlie andi pulled overto the side and she sat like a good girl, we watched them pass, the last dog owners to pass commented 'show offs' at us, how rude is that, she was jsut being polite not showing off, sheesh. btu thats the extent of their friendliness...
i often wonder if its because ppl dont understnad dogs anymore, in that they dont know big dogs therefore jsut aviod them and hate them from fear, i dont know....but i take it personally how can you not.... i must look right crazy tothem, its the only thing i can think of... i would love to wlak her in toronto, she would have such a time, she loves socialising and being called nice names, she loves to play so much, its hardo n her as she only has a few dog friends who she sees occassionally, poor social rejects arent we, oh boo hoo for poor me and charlie...
if onyl we had ppl like you and schwinn here, charlie would be in heaven... :D
August 4th, 2005, 06:43 PM
AHHHH thats sooo sad for you and Charlie...gosh even us pittie owners get treated way better than that! Til August 29th that is....Im really surprised though...thats not at all the way I imagined the place! What happened to all the big dogs? What kind of dogs do people have? And even the little dog owners don't talk to one another...Weird and very sad! And your so friendly...you must talk to yourself alot...oh wait I get it thats why your here LOL but what about Charlie? poor thing.
August 4th, 2005, 07:19 PM
If you guys think you get a lot of comments with a pitty, you should try walking down a street with a black dog with white/blue eyes! Nobody walks by without a comment. :D
August 4th, 2005, 07:27 PM
what kind of dog have you got Prin, I always assumed it was a poodle cause of your pic? Wheres some photos...Ill go look and make a comment too :)
August 6th, 2005, 06:34 PM
prins baby dog is a black lab mix, arent they prin??
i live in the countr,y and of course yo u ahve lots of cattle dogs but their all at work on their farms so you dont see them... the good majority of dogs you see these days are small, large breeds are not very popular any more, small lap dogs are al lthe rage, charlie is a GSD and she is one of the biggest dogs in town, i sometimes see a nice man whos dogs are pig hunters, and their pretty big, and certianly not in the frame of mind to play with charlie, theri beautiful dogs odnt get me wrong, and very very well trained, but no thier not socialising dogs, and their owners will tell ppl that.
nah its all maltese and snobadoodles and whatever.... and in sydney its the same...
charlie has a friend who is a rottie, but hes a bit of a social freak himself, he lives in sydney in the tiniest little townhouse, his owners walk him lots and hes a good boy, but he wont go on hte grass, ti freaks him out, which in turn freaks charlie out she doesnt get him, and he hates rough big dog play...
so no, and its a shame i odnt live near you guys, i love to walk, charlie and i can walk all day for fun, i wish so often we had someone to walk with, it would be sooo much fun...
but oh well we have each other and thats enough really, we have lots of fun on our own anyway, and yes, how did you guessi talk to mysel,f but charlie more, we often talk all the way out and back, shes great company and a good listener.... :p
August 6th, 2005, 06:38 PM
Boo we think is a newf mix (but nobody agrees with me...)
Jemma is lab husky.
This is the mug that everybody has to comment on when we walk down the street. (LOL I didn't put the growly one this time. It's a miracle!!)
August 9th, 2005, 01:02 AM
Those pale blue eyes in a black Labby face! I bet your walks always take longer than expected with admirers all over the place?
I have a Black Lab, with regular brown eyes, & a very large Akita. I have gotten asked if the Akita is a Wolf or a Wolf Hybrid a few times -usually from a looong distance away from him. (I wonder if they have ever seen a real Wolf? Except for the long legs & big feet, he really doesn't look at all like a Wolf. At least I don't think so. Sometimes I get asked if he is a King Shepherd. Or a Malamute/GSD or King Shepherd crossbred.)
Melanie, I'm sure that Charlie is a Beauty too! GSD's are always beautiful! Even when they get old, they are still lovely dogs.
I gotta figure out how to post a picture of my 2!
August 9th, 2005, 01:17 AM
Yeah- sometimes it gets annoying. Like when they ask me if Boo is Jemma's mom, or when I'm going to breed them and then they get pissed when they find out that both are neutered. Having blue eyes is not the only reason to breed, a dog you know?
I wish I had a pic of her elbow fur.. I have this one- you can sort of see it. See the wing off her elbow? It looks sort of grey? Anyway, it's only on one side and it's amazing how many people notice it and comment on it. I get told all the time to cut it off, but I refuse. It's Jemma!
August 10th, 2005, 05:47 PM
Ohhh shes beautiful...sorry it took me so long Ihavent been here in a while, not since I asked you for her picture!
August 10th, 2005, 05:56 PM
I wish I had a pic of her elbow fur..
On my friend's dog Jake, I call the elbow fur racing tassels. I wonder what the proper term is for it?
