My dog's skin appear to be irritated

July 27th, 2005, 07:59 PM
My dog's skin seems to irritated near his rectum area. He keeps biting near that area and it appears irritated. I put a mixture of olive oil and neem oil on the area, until I take him to the vet tomorrow.

Do you think that mixture is okay?

Thanks in advance.

Actually, I would refrain from putting anything on the skin, because you might be irritating it more. Wait for the vet to advise. His anal glands might need emptying, and they're just itchy as a result.

Thank you, Prinn, for your reply.

I did take a wet cloth and removed most of it.

Thanks again.

No problem. I really hope all goes well at the vet tomorrow. Will you come back and give us an update? :) :grouphug:

Hi Prinn,
Thank you so much for your helpful insight. You were right! He had developed a cyst on his anal gland. I did not sleep much at all last night, because I was so concerned he would bite himself raw where he felt the irritation.

Today, the vet took blood samples, gave him a shot and gave me some amoxil medicine to start giving to him tomorrow twice a day. I think he is beginning to feel better already.

Thank you again, so much. May God continue to Bless you.
