Prin July 26th, 2005, 10:28 PM I'm just wondering why you all picked the usernames you did.
Some are obvious, and some we know (like Schwinn), but what about the others? Like Pags, LavenderRott (the rott, I know :) ), and the others. If you have a name we consider obvious but you have a whacky explanation for it, feel free to jump in too.
I'm just curious. You don't have to answer if you don't want to. You are under no obligation (and no sales rep will come see you. No purchase necessary. :D )
toby's tracy July 26th, 2005, 10:37 PM well...mine is pretty simple.
I'm Tracy.
When I joined Toby was just over 2 months and basically ran my life...
...Toby's Tracy!
Prin July 26th, 2005, 10:37 PM Umm, do you have a husband? If so, what does he think of this username? :D
melanie July 26th, 2005, 10:42 PM i didnt choose this stupid user name, it was a dumb mistake and now im stuck with it and i hate it, no one in my life ever ever calls me melanie, i hate that stupid name- how it got here is too long to tell, jsut know it was really really really really dumb and i will always regret it...
in my world i have always been mel, even my business cards have mel... people often show surprise when they find out im a melanie, ewwww yuck.....
Prin July 26th, 2005, 10:44 PM If you weren't a melanie, what else would mel stand for? Melinda? Melones?
melanie July 26th, 2005, 10:48 PM hmmm well i dont know, i havent thought that far in my life time :D and speaking of thinking you should be doing some form of study right now shouldnt you?? and are you using us to procrastinate??? hmmm i am on to you missy, now get back to work, head down bums up (make sure you ahve lots of fluids now too) :D  <thats me cracking the whip
Prin July 26th, 2005, 10:54 PM Actually, funny you should mention that... I'm on my way to failing Organic Chemistry 2 again... It's one of those things that I just don't get. The way the electrons move seems to be fabricated. I mean the prof just makes it up as he goes along. There's no reasoning to it. If there is, it's lost on me.
Looks great for my final on Thursday, eh? I have never done so poorly in a class before. It's really hard to fail at something over and over.
toby's tracy July 26th, 2005, 10:57 PM Umm, do you have a husband? If so, what does he think of this username? :D
Boyfriend...we live together...hmmm...let me remember...I think he said it wasn't too original. Other than that, he kind of ignores me when I am on pets.ca!
but that's ok - I ignore him when he's on dive sites! ;)
Prin July 26th, 2005, 11:01 PM But when does he have access to the computer? Between 2 and 4AM when you're not on here? :D (That's when my bf gets the computer)
melanie July 26th, 2005, 11:05 PM oh prin, failing chemistry, boy thats familiar  now i passed the secound time and so can you, you jsut need to rote learn, its that easy now comon, lots of acronyms...dont ever truly learn anything, jsut rote learn for life, thats my motto...
and yes i hate to say it but he is making it all up  truly i kid you not, i too came to this conclusion with any form of chemistry at which i turned my hand, chemistry is all jsut made up, they spin it of the top of thier heads for sure....its all a load of doggie puddles really....
im feeling for you i assure you, now head down bum up for goodness sake, thursday will be over before you know it.... and you dont wnat to have to go to the student administration and enrol a third time, now that would be a bit sad...i believe you ahve a brain, please try and use it... now get to work and enough gassbagging... :D
toby's tracy July 26th, 2005, 11:05 PM But when does he have access to the computer? Between 2 and 4AM when you're not on here? :D (That's when my bf gets the computer)
Ah - We've got a few computers - he works in software and has 2 work computers , and of course needs an extra PC for games...I've got my PC for work and school (I'm a teacher and a student).
I'm back in school, working on an independent study over the summer...
...ok, I'm procrastinating working on my independent study this summer ;)
So I'm always researching, writing, reading, emailing...and checking out doggy tips! :)
Prin July 26th, 2005, 11:10 PM I KNEW THEY MADE IT UP!! I knew it! I swear the way they move from one molecule to another us decided based on what the prof has as an answer. I don't get it. I just need a 50 on the final to barely pass and that is what I am shooting for. I REALLY hope I don't have to do it again. REALLY, REALLY. I need it to graduate, but otherwise I will never use it again. Blech.
And Toby's Tracy, isn't "Independent Study" a fancy word for procrastination?
toby's tracy July 26th, 2005, 11:15 PM And Toby's Tracy, isn't "Independent Study" a fancy word for procrastination?
 Well, it seems to be proving so right now...though I do have some action research to finish this week and a 25 (or so) page paper to complete by August 15
Prin July 26th, 2005, 11:19 PM It can be done. You just have to buckle down. LOL I should talk. :D
toby's tracy July 26th, 2005, 11:23 PM Sigh...I'm not used to having to actually work in the summer!!!
I'm a teacher - this summer work stuff doesn't come naturally to me!!!!!!
Actually, I lie - but usually I am prepping for September, not writing papers!
on that note...time for bed. I have to get up early and prepare for a meeting tomorrow afternoon.
Good night - and good studying!!!! :grouphug: We will succeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(though, I don't have to do organic chemistry :yuck: I don't know how you do that stuff!)
Prin July 26th, 2005, 11:27 PM I don't know how to do org chem either... G'nite. :D
Puppyluv July 27th, 2005, 04:32 AM Aww Prin, you're stuck doing a summer of org chem too? Join the club! :highfive: hmm those smilies seem too happy for this situation......
Dogastrophe July 27th, 2005, 06:59 AM  Ahhhhhhhhh ... bimolecular substitution, free radical halogenation, 1,2-Dichlorocyclohexane, having terrible university flashbacks, make it stop, MAKE IT STOP....
Whew, now that that episode is over with, I can get back to the task at hand. When I signed up the mutts were in prime form chasing each other around the house causing area rugs to get displaced, chairs moved, lamps falling, etc. It was total chaos. While thinking of a sign in name I thought of the catastrophe that occured in the house that morning, then determined that it was not a 'cat'astrohpe, it was a dogastrophe.
BMDLuver July 27th, 2005, 07:13 AM I like your user name Dogastrophe! Very creative.
Prin, I barely scraped by my chemistry requirements. I did so thanks to my prof who really understood that I was like a deer in the headlights when it came to chemistry. He and a 4th year student spent many an hour getting me to the point of passing. I didn't really comprehend physics very well either as I think my brain doesn't wrap around "obscure". Now math, love it, give me 5 courses in it no problem, same for biology! :o
Mel, dear... get Marko to change your user name to Mel.. :D
Beaglemom July 27th, 2005, 07:49 AM I remember chemistry class, boy did I hate it! I used to come up with the weirdest models, never right, I never got it myself so you are not alone. I barely passed my first year chem class, sometime I wonder how I did pass. Thank goodness I only needed the one to graduate! I don't know how people can major in chem! They must love torture! (sorry for any chem majors out there).
As for my user name, I think it is pretty obvious. I wasn't feeling very creative the day I joined. I was really worried about some test results and I needed advice so I just joined. If I hadn't been stressed or had more time, I would have probably chosen something a bit more creative.
Blaze01 July 27th, 2005, 08:50 AM Blaze is my cats name...I am the worst at picking user and screen names
Schwinn July 27th, 2005, 08:54 AM Actually, the way I decided on my name is pretty silly. My nickname is Bulldog, but that was taken. I tried a few others, all taken. Then I was looking around the room, and I saw my bike in the corner, and the big "SCHWINN" up the downtube, and here I am. Thank goodness I didn't look out the window on a day I hadn't done poop patrol yet...
pags July 27th, 2005, 09:02 AM Organic chemistry dashed my dreams of a biology major!! I signed up every semester... and dropped out every semester when my average dipped below 20. Eeew. I finally opted for a minor in biology and a major in political science... which sort of leads me to how I chose my username... :D
Many moons ago I was single and raising little children and in desperate need of a hobby and some extra cash... I was also mildly computer-geekish so a friend of mine set me up with a job writing code for an up-and-coming online role-playing game. I wasn't all that interested in the game part -- I wasn't that much of a geek... But after a couple months I realized that it would be a lot easier to code if I actually tried playing one of these games to see things from a gamer's perspective... So I googled and found the first free RPG I could and created a character. The prompt asked me for a character name and I absent-mindedly checked my bookshelf full of books from my days in political science classes. The first thing I saw was something by Camille Paglia - so I grabbed the name 'Paglia'.
Well okay so the game turned out to be addictive as heck and I forgot all about coding for the competition... The other folk affectionately dubbed me 'Pags' (although my husband never affectionately called me anything as he was busy trying to slay me...) and so was born my alter-ego. I played for years.. and my hubby and I still go back to visit now and then... I suppose after all that time and history - I consider it to be an actual nickname now.
Not all that exciting -- but now you know!!!
Schwinn July 27th, 2005, 09:25 AM Actually, funny you should mention that... I'm on my way to failing Organic Chemistry 2 again...
You know, I've never failed any courses, though there were several that I liked so much, I took them twice! ;)
heidiho July 27th, 2005, 09:37 AM As far back as ican remember everyone always says hey heidiho,so i just stuck with that
lilith_rizel July 27th, 2005, 10:01 AM My husband always called me Lilith. The Rizel comes from what he used as his "lastname" in German class. Mine isn't all that exciting.......
Toonces July 27th, 2005, 10:18 AM Toonces is the name of my cat he will be 16 this yr, some of you might remember the skit on SNL "Toonces the driving cat" well my guy looks like him and thats where he got his name.
jjgeonerd July 27th, 2005, 10:20 AM I agree with everyone...Chemistry sucks! Physics good, chemistry bad. :)
My username: JJ (my initials) geo (geotechnical) nerd (engineer). I wish it was shorter now...like just JJgeo.
pags July 27th, 2005, 10:43 AM Toonces is the name of my cat he will be 16 this yr, some of you might remember the skit on SNL "Toonces the driving cat" well my guy looks like him and thats where he got his name.
LOL I knew it.. I kept seeing your posts and thinking 'where on earth have I heard 'toonces' before??' Giggle. Thanks for bringing that memory back!! I had forgotten all about Toonces the driving cat!!!
Prin July 27th, 2005, 11:52 AM Prin, I barely scraped by my chemistry requirements.
LOL I'm in the same boat. I only passed cegep physics because I sucked up. I only passed Cal 3 because I sucked up and promised never to take another cal class without redoing that one. Can't suck up to chem teachers though. They seem to have more failing students than any other profs, so they stop caring. :(
My husband always called me Lilith. The Rizel comes from what he used as his "lastname" in German class. Mine isn't all that exciting....... I always thought you were trying to be hip. Like your name was Lilith Roberts, but to keep up with the kids, you called yourself Lilith Rizel Schizzle my Bizzle. But then you dropped the last parts. :D
Toonces is the name of my cat he will be 16 this yr, some of you might remember the skit on SNL "Toonces the driving cat" well my guy looks like him and thats where he got his name.I loved Toonces!! "Toonces LOOK OUT!" Back when SNL was funny. ;)
jjgeonerd, do you teach? There is an overpopulation of bad physics teachers in the world, it would help if at least one of them liked it and could explain things well. :) One of my profs was teaching us the "left hand rule for solenoids" and he said, "You can use your right hand too, like this.." And then he lost us all. It was funny in the final exam though... You look around the room and everybody is doing it with their left and then the right and then the left again and then they just sit there for a while. :D
You know, I've never failed any courses, though there were several that I liked so much, I took them twice! The thing is, I hate this one with all me might. I have 25 hours till my final. Starting to shake. Nausea creeping in... Panic... Need to forage for some chocolate.
Oh, and Schwinn, at least your name is a catchy one. :D You could have chosen Peugeot, and then we would have all thought you were French, or something. ;)
Luvmypit July 27th, 2005, 12:11 PM Interesting names. Mine i think is self explanatory. I came on here when Michael bryant had his 15 seconds of fame with his Pit bulls... banned... bannned... banned speach.
Point was to be proud of the breed of dog I own.
Cause I umm well.... luv my pit.
Prin July 27th, 2005, 12:17 PM LOL Luvmypit, it's still a good story. :) One day when the law gets overturned, someone might come back here and get a history lesson. :D
kandy July 27th, 2005, 03:31 PM I've never had any nicknames and since this is the only forum I belong to, I don't have much experience at picking a screen name. Plus, I'm just not that creative. My name is Kandy and it's not short for anything. I know, **yawn**!
Prin July 27th, 2005, 04:24 PM Don't worry, Kandy. I'm not original either. Prin is my nicname that came about because my grandmother was writing my name on her calendar on my birthday and got a phone call and never finished it. :D
toby's tracy July 27th, 2005, 04:40 PM Don't worry, Kandy. I'm not original either. Prin is my nicname that came about because my grandmother was writing my name on her calendar on my birthday and got a phone call and never finished it. :D
Princess? Prinda? Prin....? hmmm...can't think of a name that starts with Prin - maybe I'm just tired!
glasslass July 27th, 2005, 06:47 PM I'm using my mom's computer at the moment and don't have access to my photos or scanner. Then I remembered we had another thread like this one about a year ago and I explained my username with a photo then. So . . here tis!
http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=6207&highlight=stained+glass
babyrocky1 July 27th, 2005, 07:33 PM LOL I knew it.. I kept seeing your posts and thinking 'where on earth have I heard 'toonces' before??' Giggle. Thanks for bringing that memory back!! I had forgotten all about Toonces the driving cat!!!I did exactly the same thing....It took me forever to remember, I was amost going to pm but back then I was too shy LOL...when it finally came to me I couldnt believe it...that was my daughters favorite character on SNL! Very cool name. My name is actually my daughters invention, she had a dog named Baby for a while, and Rocky is ofcourse my dog...babys story is really long but its okay, the story has a happy ending!
Prin July 27th, 2005, 08:47 PM Yes, Toby's Tracy and White Wolf, it's Princess. What can I say, my mom was wacky... :D
Toonces July 28th, 2005, 05:16 AM So glad I could bring back that memory for you guys, my favorite was the one where he was learning to speak french, here is a pic of our Toonces, he can't drive but he is pretty smart ;)
Kariia July 28th, 2005, 08:37 AM Mine is boring. xD
Kariia is just my Chow's name (Surria) changed a bit, and Surria is just "surreal" changed a bit. Go figure.
pags July 28th, 2005, 08:40 AM Mine is boring. xD
Kariia is just my Chow's name (Surria) changed a bit, and Surria is just "surreal" changed a bit. Go figure.
That's not boring! That's cool! I never would have guessed the 'surreal' to 'surria' thing.. Very neat.
Kariia July 28th, 2005, 08:44 AM *shrug* I always do that... Tigra's name at the shelter was Tiger...She learned the new name in like a day. But Kiki isn't anythig switched around. It's just a name that fits her. She is the most hyper cat I've ever seen...
Shaykeija July 28th, 2005, 08:50 AM Shaykeija is in memory of Shayker, a Llasa terrier mix who died April 21 2002 at 14 months of age and Akeija a 15 year old golden mix, who died on January 28, 2002. I really miss my girls.
babyrocky1 July 28th, 2005, 06:30 PM Hey Toonces really does look like the Driving cat! Very Cute!!!
Prin July 28th, 2005, 06:39 PM "Toonces, Look OUT!" I love to write that. :D I forgot what Toonces looked like, but seeing that little bugger really did remind me. :)
Puppyluv July 28th, 2005, 07:02 PM hmm my "classy" name evolved when I got rejected on all 15 attempts at other names, which other people apparantly have claimed  So I got really impatient and chose puppyluv.. and now when ever i look at my name I feel like i'm 14.... maybe I'll like that in 30 years ;)
dmc123 July 28th, 2005, 07:40 PM I picked mine, real dumb and generic, because the day I found this site, I had a specific question and thought I might not be here often. Had I known then, that I would come in every day, I would have tried something more fun or creative.
I always feel many that see me here, think I am new....I mean dmc123, really. I wish I could change it without losing history.
Diane
Prin July 28th, 2005, 09:12 PM LOL Hopefully Marko will read this thread and see all the regret in name choosing and maybe give you all a way out...
I always thought dmc was a reference to the 80's somehow... :)
dmc123 July 28th, 2005, 09:34 PM lol prin, and thanks maybe I can get a break :) dmc is initials and considering my age, might be somewhat connected to the 80's, run DMC, delorian motor corp, etc, lol.
Prin July 28th, 2005, 09:45 PM LOL my thoughts exactly. Though I don't know your age... :D
dmc123 July 28th, 2005, 09:48 PM lol, 43 here, proud of all the gray hairs I am collecting, lol, getting them quick :)
Joey.E.CockersMommy July 28th, 2005, 09:54 PM I am not good at choosing user names. But Joey is for my dogs name E is for the english and cockers mommy is for for me of course.
I almost was going to go with Joe Cocker sort of after the singer but didn't as my dogs name is Joey not Joe and I didn't really think he would appreciate it so I kept his original name.
lilith_rizel July 28th, 2005, 10:59 PM I always thought you were trying to be hip. Like your name was Lilith Roberts, but to keep up with the kids, you called yourself Lilith Rizel Schizzle my Bizzle. But then you dropped the last parts. :D
Nope, hubby has always called me Lilith. There is an entire story behind that nickname too. Not going to go into explain it to everyone, do torespect of other people's religious beliefs, but feel free to PM me, if you would like to know, about it.
Prin July 29th, 2005, 12:57 AM now I'm curious as heck!! :D
AliSam July 29th, 2005, 02:58 PM I am not very original either. As you can probably see Ali (Alicia) Sam (Sam) - AliSam. I was going to incorporate Sasha's name into it too, but I wasn't very creative that day and gave up. I wish I had come up with something a little more intelligent.
doggy lover July 29th, 2005, 08:14 PM Mines self expantatory I LOVE DOGGIES!
