Chico was gone

Yesterday we had the scare of our lives, all three cats were lazing around in the grass with us and when it came time to go inside,Rocky and Vinnie ran in..but no sign of Chico,we always keep an eye on them at all times and Chico never jumped the 7 foot fence,,,
Well, hubby and I split up,walked up and down the street, looked in everyones backyard, calling him(he always come when we call)no Chico, after an hour I am crying and sweaty, going back home and there he was,on the frontporch tounge hanging out panting :thumbs up
I have no idea where he had been, but suspect he might have gone after one of the many bunnies around.
My cats have always gone outside with us,from the day they were little and this has never happened, but I guess there is always a first time....but I am so glad he found his way home, from wherever he was.
Today,Chico is staying inside, but Rocky and Vinnie will come outside with us,hubby thinks for some inane reason,Chico will take it as being"grounded"
and I am not going to argue with him :D

My cats are indoor cats as we live near a busy highway, once in a while my little cat runs out, gives me a heart attack till I can get her back in.

Oh ((((Anita))))) What a scare!! I would be so upset if YY - or one of the Sphynx - got out!!! I am paranoid about that - as you know - and watch them like a hawk. But I know, it happens SO quickly that you can be the most observant meomy and poof, your cat is outside!! I am so glad this had a happy ending! Take a deep breath! :grouphug:

CK,actually as you probably know, all three cats come out with me every day and it's usually no problem,we did the same with all the cats we've had for about 25 yrs.I even take them out in the winter.
There is all kinds of things for them to do in my backyard and it's all fenced in,with hedges and fences...and I do watch them like a hawk, but somehow Chico jumped the 7 foot fence, probably like I said, after a bunny.
I think he was just as scared as us though and very lucky to have found his way home.
He had to stay inside today and it's almost as if he knew why :D

Chico, what a scare for you! I am so glad there was a happy ending. It's just the sickest feeling, isnt it? And the relief to see them again is overwhelming. I'm sure when Chico gets off his "grounding" you and hubby will be watching him like a hawk.

Oh yes Shamrock, only last week I was helping to look for an in-door cat who had been gone for 2 weeks, luckily a kind soul found her, gave her food and water and called HS.She was microchipped and we went to pick her up,skinny and dehydrated but otherwise fine :thumbs up
All kinds of things went through my head when Chico was missing, nothing good..he is very friendly and would have gone to anyone, but luckily it did not come to that...he was gone for an hour and a half.
He'll be going outside tomorrow and you bet,I'll watch his every move!

I'm so glad you got him back!! Yey!! I know how upsetting that is!! :o Boo disappears a lot here, since we moved. Every time I think the worst. My old dobie used to disappear for hours if you left the door open for a split second. He took off running. So I always assume this time is the last time- he is gone forever. Then he reappears from the bushes covered in spiders...

Chico your comments on the searching for the indoor missing cat got me thinking of my cat Basil's dispearance - 2 years ago almost to the very day.

He slipped out and was gone for six days, an agonizing time of worry and fear. He's an extremely shy cat, I'd knew he'd never approach people. He certainly has no hunting skills, and seems to have poor vison, compounding the danger. No cat is safe roaming loose.. but this one definitely at more risk. I was just sick, spent every day searching and canvassing the area over and over. But it was like he had vanished into thin air.
We had to cancel our vacation. I was beginning to think a coyote had taken him, or even a more horrible fate - that he was trapped inside someone's carport or garage who possibly was away. These thoughts were like a knife in my heart.

Anyway, very early one morning- he just re-appeared in our yard. Incredibly, he was none the worse for wear, - like he'd just stepped out for 10 min. My hubby brought him upstairs to where I was still sleeping, placed him in my arms - and I just cried like a baby.
We always speculate on where he was. What did he eat and drink for six days alone -in the middle of a summer heat wave? And how could he ever find his way back?

I think someone took him home, knew exactly where he belonged. Possibly feeling guilty seeing the many posters up (or even seeing me wandering around.. calling calling.) they simply dropped him off again. There is no other explanation as to how he survived. But the puzzling thing on that theory is that my posters offered a large reward. Why wouldnt they claim it?

At any rate, a happy ending for me - a day I will never forget.
My cats are tattooed, but since then, they now have microchips and wear an id collar as well.
As mentioned, cats are very quick, it can happen in a heartbeat.

The weird thing is,as I was looking for him, calling him,I kept hearing a cat meowing, the same thing when I was looking for the other cat...but it was my mind playing a trick on me.
My cats are not microchipped, they have the HS-Id tag,but the collar could easily come off,so I think I'll have them microchipped just in case.

Chico, you bad boy, worrying your mom like that. You're grounded, and NO "Pounce" for two weeks!!:p

I know how you feel. My feral mommacat got out last night, and aside from one glimpse this morning, I haven't seen her since.:(

Puss-Puss had many hiding places. She would disappear whenever it was time for her to go to the vet for her bloodtest or vaccinations. How she knew, I'll never know. We were careful not to talk about it, but she would always know. She went in & out the doggie door and I never worried about her leaving the yard. We found her when she was about 3mos and she evidently had a bad experience in her short life while she was on her own. She would struggle if I tried to carry her out of the yard in my arms. Maybe Chico was under a bush watching you search for him the whole time!

Luba...you nutter you :D :D
Lucky,I hope your feral kitty comes back...at least she knows the area right?
My cats only know my backyard,it's like a foreign country on the other side.
Glass-Lass,Rocky went to the vet last week and when we talked about it,we spelled it out,v-e-t,so he would not know, until the evil carrier came out :D As if they understand
