help with scooting

July 17th, 2005, 08:22 PM
my 6 yr old yellow lab had her anal glands removed several months ago after repeated vists to the vet to have them expressed. she has long healed from the surgery but has never stopped her scooting. it is annoying and dirty. she has holes dug in the yard, takes a dip in her "pool", then scoots in her dirty hole, then wants to come in the house and drag her dirty rear on the carpet. is this a habit we need to break or is it something else (other than worms)? thanks in advance.

She could be itchy, have some sort of irritation
have the vet check it out to be sure.

It could just be a conditioned habit. But it could be problem, there can be complications from this surgery that would result in the dog feeling irritated etc. BE careful if your vet recommends additional surgery, it's a sensitive area. Worst case scenerio, the dog loses sphincter control. You'll be wishing for the scootin' back if that happens.
