Hybrid wolves attack Arizona family

July 14th, 2005, 12:12 PM
GALLUP, N.M. - A northeastern Arizona couple and their son are recovering after being attacked by a group of hybrid wolves owned by a Gallup, New Mexico, dog breeder.

Gallup police cited 82-year-old Tony Mesich after his animals attacked the family from Ganado. He faces 14 city code violations that include failure to posses a valid kennel permit to breed the dogs and for unsanitary housing conditions for the animals.

Authorities say animal control officers also confiscated at least one of his 14 hybrid wolves.

On Saturday, Mesich reportedly invited the family inside his fenced yard to view the hybrid wolves. As he shut the gate, the animals began biting.

Alvina Reid and Gilbert Hoskiel, both 35, and 13-year-old Aldrin Hoskiel were treated for their injuries and released from a Gallup health clinic.
