Hi guys.

One of my friends has a bernese male, intact, soon to be neutered.
As you all know, I've got two dogs, 2 cats. One of each, everyone spayed/neutered. This puppy has cats at home, so no worries, but should I do something special to introduce him to my dogs?

I've always just "thrown" everyone together  , but apparently have been lucky in doing so.

We are going to have a 1/2 day/play date to sort of try it out, before my friend will take a week or so vacation.

Any tips?

thanks guys :thumbs up

Can you give me the ages of the doggies and who is intact or not? And maybe how old they were when they were neutered?

my dogs,

Gypsy 5 years old, spayed at 6 mos.
Jake 7 years old, neutered at 6 mos.

and my cats
Sam found at 1.5 yr (we think) and he was already neutered. he's now 7-8 (still not sure)
Frankie also 8 spayed at 6 months.

and my friends guy"Buddy" is 1 yr. and they were told by their vet to wait till 1.5 yr to neuter. (??)

Arg, another one told to wait. Blech.

It shouldn't be a big problem unless the bernese smells very testosteroney. If so, you might not be able to keep the males together at all. Neutered males who are not submissive (but not necessarily overly dominant either) tend to have big issues with intact males, especially if they are younger. It takes a while for the hormoney smell to leave the dog, and some dogs who are neutered late never lose it, it seems. You'll just have to make sure the pup knows he is not allowed to dominate any of your dogs in or out of the home.

Can you have some pre-stay visits first, just to be sure they an get along?

The female shouldn't have a problem unless she is humped.
