Lola the mouser

Lately we`ve had what seems like several litters of baby field mice somewhere in our house (anyone know how many babies are in a litter?). Everyday or two we find a baby or bigger either dead on the floor or being played with by the puppy! We live in an old house, so plenty of cracks & holes for mice to gnaw through but we usually don`t have them in the summer. The cat has caught a few, but mostly its Lola catching them. She thinks they are the best toy! :eek: Even when they are dead she keeps poking them like she wants them to get up and run.

We do get them away from her as soon as we notice and so far I don`t think she`s eaten any. But is there anything she could catch from them if she does eat one? I don`t think we have hantavirus in this area, but I don`t know what else mice can carry.

We are kinda proud of her for being so good at catching them. I know thats unsympathetic to the mice, but they aren`t pets or guests and they need to be gone!

Mice breed like wildfire, so it would be best to get the cracks and holes blocked up.

Cats can get parasites from eating rodents. At the very least, they will probably get tapeworms, so you'll need to have them wormed periodically. Do not use wormers from the pet store.

we have a mouse problem too. I think with the nice weather they've moved outside in the tool shack in the back yard. We have bird seeds there and they found them. They're very smart it seems. They avoid all traps and still get to the seeds.

So when is your cat available?? lol

Sorry I wasn`t clear, but Lola is the 6 month old puppy! I probably wouldn`t have found it post-worthy if it were the cat getting the mice :crazy: We do seal up holes as we find them- just found a huge hole behind some paint cans in the pantry where we`ve been seeing them. The little buggers are so good at making new ones though. Worms are one of the things I was wondering about. I`ll be watching for symptoms and have her stool checked next time she sees the vet if no problems show up before then. So far I don`t think she`s eating them, just wanted to know the possibilities if she does.
