Canada Cake

Does anyone have any good recipes for a canada day themed cake. I've been told I have to bring one to my parents annual canada day party. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Yeah. I have a great one. Just make sure to make it the day before.

Buy some pre-made white cake. Usually 2 pound cakes work. Has to be just cake, no icing or filling. Although, you could probably try those sarah lee frozen bar cakes that have a small amount of filling if you can't find pound cake.

2 boxes strawberry jello

1 tub of cool whip or you can make a batch of nutriwhip

1-2 quarts strawberries.

Slice the cake into slices to cover the bottom of a lasagna pan (you..those long pans...8 by 12 inch or something like that...the shape of a flag).

Slice strawberries and stuff them inbetween the slices of cake so that all the holes/spaces are filled.

Make both jello packages using 3/4 cup boiling water and 3/4 cool water instead of the usual 1 cup of both packages use 1.5 cups boiling water, and 1.5 cups cold water. Pour the jello over the cake and strawberries. You may have to pour half and wait for the cake to soak up the jello for a bit before putting the rest.

Cover and put in the fridge for a few hours until jello is set.

COver the cake with cool whip that has been defrosted. Slice remaining strawberries and place on the cake in a Canada Flag shape (put rows of them down the sides, and make a maple leaf in the centre).

Make sure to keep in the fridge until ready to serve.

It's a recipe I got YEARS ago in a magazine. It's a recipe from Kraft. Here is a website with slightly different instructions. I just modified the recipe a little.

here is the official kraft recipe:

I like it better when the jello soaks into all the cake. It's SOOO good.

OH wait let me show you a picture of the one my mom makes annually you'll love it....I'll have to ask her how she makes it though... but here is the pic

Basically any standard cake with frosting and strawberries but I know she puts a filling in it and the frosting is home made cheese cake/lemon...yum

Mmmmmm those cakes look so good!
The icing you talked about Luba sounds so good! I'm not a fan of regular frosting from a can or cool whip but thats sounds delicious!
Decisions Decisions.

I really wish I was a better baker! It will probably take me at least 2 tries to get the cake right. :o

That looks so good! All of them! First time I've seen a Canada Cake and now I think I'm missing out on something! Wait! 4th of July is around the corner!
Maybe I can do an American flag with Strawberries and Blue Berries!
