2dogs and 1 cat getting along???

I have a 3 yr. old male siamese cat, a 6 year old (not neutered) maltese and i had up until a month ago a male (not neutered) 3 year old bulldog. The bulldog passed away recently. The maltese used to attack the bulldog and one day the bulldog attacked back -- from then on i knew i had to watch them, the maltese always started the fight. -- the cat got along with both of them equally as well. Since the bulldog died, i was asked if i would like to adopt a one year old female (also not fixed) bulldog that the owner could not keep any longer. I took her on a trial basis and love her, and of course my maltese is jealous and growls if she walks by but does let her go first in the door -- i believe the maltese is afraid of her size - the same way he was with the previous dog. However, the problem is my siamese cat is not so accepting of this dog. The dog is grown but sweet as pie. She is actually a delight. Does anyone think this is worth working on -- i am home mostly all the time and do have the patience -- however, i believe they feel my nervous energy when they are near each other. Any thoughts?

I think that's very normal. It's probably written in stone from caveman times "cats and dogs don't get along". Haha, j/k! I have a 10 year old, female cat, with plently of attitude. When I brought my dog home she was so mad and hissed at him if he was even in the same room as her and didn't make any eye contact. It's been a year and she's gotten so much better (I'm very proud!). I think you're cat will most likely soften up - especially if he previously got along with your other dog. Give him time.

Why are your dogs not spayed or neutered? Having two intact bitches in the house is asking for big trouble.

IF you want to keep the bulldog, please get them both spayed. They will be much calmer, happier and MUCH healthier.

Your cat can probably learn to accept the new dog if you introduce them very slowly and carefully. What is the cat doing? Trying to attack the dog?

my male maltese. 7, Un neutered, and the new female bulldog someone just gave me (she is not fixed yet) 1 yr. old. The maltese hates the bulldog - growls everytime he is around. Siamese cat not liking bulldog -- hissing at him for a week now. bulldog is sweet. HELP!!!!

I agree that you would be better off to have the dogs fixed - especially since you will now have an intact male and an intact female. If you think you've got problems now, just wait until that bulldog goes into heat! I think the cat will come around, perhaps the bulldog smells like the kennel or something. If the cat liked the last dog, I am sure she can get used to this one too. Good Luck!
