Why does Blaze do this?

One of Blazes favorite pastime is staring at the window. My mom put up a bird feeder to entertain him. Well sometimes when there are alot of birds outside he will start to shake and make this awful meow, it sounds like it is coming from the back of his throat and is muffled. Its kind of strange and scares me when he does it. My friend said he was just over excited but I was just wondering if this is true?

Minnow does that too! She gets so frustrated at those feathered creatures creating a commotion! She's worse when she sees a squirrel though! She trembles too and makes a funny meow, so we always know when she's seen a critter trespassing on her turf! Her tail starts to wag back and forth and she is just dying to punce! Sometimes she is so upset that she walks away from the window and sits a few meters away. I guess it is too hard to watch up close but she just can't tear herself away!
I think it's normal - Blaze is just thinking about how tasty a feathered-snack would be! :)

Most cats chatter their jaws when they see prey this way. Totally normal!:)

Sounds somewhat like a growl (cat growl, that is). When my male cat is looking out the window and sees a cat, he'll make this deep rumble in his throat, like a growl. I just laugh at it, because he seems so over-dramatic when he does it.

Our Sam loves to sit in our kitchen window and "chatter" at any and all wild life that happens to be outside. Sometimes, when he jumps up into the window he'll start chattering before he even sees anything
Our previous cat never did this so we were a little startled and concerned the first time Sam did it, but we have learned that it is quite normal for cats. Pippin and Merri do it also, but not as much as Sam.
We used to have a bird feeder right outside our window but that seemed to drive all 3 boyz a little crazy so we moved it further away to the far end of the yard. Now they all enjoy the ongoings of the birds but from a distance :)

My cat Buddy (RIP) would sit in the window and chatter daily. Honey talks to me daily, as well as argue with me. Fu is queiter but he still chatters some but he is still young and would rather play than watch the birds.

Thanks guys...I had no freaking idea what he was doing! It is a chatter and a small growl.

Maya does this too, though Chaco doesn't (kind of odd). In a way it sounds like she's trying to imitate the bird noises. That's when I know she's in "huntress mode," though she's totally an indoor cat.

That is normal. I think most cats do it. We say that Cry is talking to the birds when he sees a bird he will do that. Have not heard the kittens do it yet. :D
