Please pass this link along! http://img89.echo.cx/img89/7616/gsdhowl29vk.gif

The GSDBBR is open to all owners of Registered German Shepherd Dogs, worldwide, that have titled dogs or dogs within 5 generations of their dog's pedigree that are progeny/littermates of these titled dogs. You may only post information about a dog you own!
This Registry has been created in an attempt to gather comprehensive health information which will enable breeders to make more informed breeding choices and to avoid doubling up on health issues.
We thank all who will participate in this Registry for caring enough to want to take a proactive role in bettering the health of the breed. Together, we CAN make a difference!

I am not sure if i understand this site at all? How is this site helping breeders with health info if the people entering the dogs don't have too imput that info?

And many BYB can have dogs producing(breeding) that if you look back in their pedigree, esp 5 generations worth, that have titles, which mean absolutely nothing if the parents aren't. Personally, i believe in todays world filled with unwanted dogs, if you are going to breed, you have better have a good reason too, and the parents being titled and health tested is a good start.

And what titles are we talking about here? I just don't understand this site.

The registries are good news in 2 ways. One, the ethical breeders can be sure they are not doubling and tripling up on problems and the buyers can find out alot of the info they need to make an informed decision. You don't have to be a breeder to enter health information, an owner is encouraged as well to make entries.

Did you look at the site Spurby? The titles are listed. Just go to the site and click on "make an entry", there you will see what will go into the database.

I'm not a breeder but I own a Registered Epilectic GSD with Auto-Immune disorders....I entered his data. A breeder will look at his pedigree and no which lines to stay away from. My guys problems came from his Dam's side. All this can be traced back. You just need to know a bit about reading pedigrees and know the breed's names to see where the problems began. I hope I explained this okay?

In the long run, it's a good thing for the dogs!

BYB's and unethical breeders who know they have problems but are afraid of losing sales etc etc etc will not make entries. Or they may be afraid of a percieved "witch hunt". http://img171.echo.cx/img171/7892/ac392xk.gif

Ahhhh, so also- someone interested in buying from a breeder can do the research themselves, instead of taking the breeder's word for it?

If I'm understanding this correctly, I think it is a GREAT idea.
