housetraining question

hi all,

we have a 5 month old minipin/manchester terrier mix. we currently take her out every 2 hours to go pee/poo and she'll usually eliminate every time we take her out. she still has an accident (pee) once every few days in the house. this usually happens when we take her out at an interval of longer than 2 hours.

is this because her bladder can't hold the pee? if it isn't, how do we make the transition to taking her out less and less?

At 5 months old, accidents are completely normal. Add to this that lots of toy breeds can be very difficult to totally housetrain.

Try not to let her have accidents in the house because each time she pees in the house the behavior is reinforced.

If she does pee in the house, it means you aren't supervising her closely enough or are not seeing her signals.

She should not have run of the house at this point, to go off and hide to pee.

If you catch her in the act, just say "No!" and then rush her outside. Use some cue words, like "Hurry up" or whatever. If she pees again, then you can praise her.

Do not scold or punish her for accidents (not saying you DO!)
