The Snow Walker

If you want to watch an excellent Canadiana type picture, then rent "The Snow Walker," based on a short story by Farley Mowat.

It's a beautifully photographed story of a hotshot bush pilot who, comes across a small native encampment and gives in to sentiment - for a price - and agrees to transport a dying young Inuit girl to hospital in Yellowknife.

She has advancing tuberculosis, common among the Inuit in that time period.

They stray from their flight path and eventually crash in the middle of nowhere.

The story is set in the 1950's.

Bring your hankies. I've watched this one three times already.

I have watched this several times as it comes on the satelite every so often. Every time I am flicking around and see the title, I end up watching it again! It is a really wonderful movie.

Really? I'm a subsriber to BEV, I have never come across this movie. Occasionally I find really weird movies on IFC.

I doubt that Blockbuster has it - maybe in the foreign films section?

According to the Blockbuster USA site, the DVD release for purchase is May 31 . . . . but I would think you could rent it now as you can in Canada. It was in theatres in the USA so I would assume it would be at the video store.

For those interested, I see that "Heartland Road," one of the Movie Central channels, on both Starchoice and Bell Expressvu (West of Manitoba) in Canada, carried "The Snow Walker" this a.m. and will air the movie again this afternoon at 4 p.m.

I believe the time is the same in all time zones but check you listings.

FYI.
