nymph April 26th, 2005, 11:39 AM I just watched The Motorcycle Diaries, a bioepic and travelogue about the early years of Che Guevara, a Cuban revolutionist. I love the cinematography, some beautiful and haunting scenes of the Andes and the people who live there. The whole movie is somewhat melancholic with occasional humors, and it's actually quite enjoyable to watch.
AND Gael García Bernal is such a cutie!
Writing4Fun April 26th, 2005, 12:39 PM I would like to see this movie, but won't be able to do it with hubby around. See, there are subtitles involved, which means I'd either have to resort to reading the whole movie out loud for him, or else listen to him whispering, "What did he say?" throughout the whole thing.
nymph April 26th, 2005, 12:47 PM I've heard from my Spanish speaking friends that the translation was horrible, and that the original language was much richer...and I failed my elective Spanish course! http://bestsmileys.com/frustrated/4.gif
Schwinn April 26th, 2005, 01:34 PM I've been meaning to rent it. I've been interested in it ever since we went to Cuba.
Rick C April 26th, 2005, 09:11 PM I thought it was an excellent movie . . . .
One would think, since we are talking of Che Gueverra, that it would be gravely serious but it plays more like two youngs guys on a typical road trip of booze, babes, boinking and discovery, mostly with a lack of money.
Woven throughout the tapestry is the gradual hardening of Che to the injustices he perceives around him as the duo make their way northward through South America.
You don't have to be pro or anti socialist to appreciate the story.

CyberKitten April 26th, 2005, 09:48 PM I too want to see this movie - Che is such a huge hero in Cuba (when I was in Cuba with my ex husband, we went with a class of his (March break) and got to visit a high school there. Che was even in their text book - tho it had to be explained to me too - my Spanish is limited to a few words and to figuring out some of the words that were similar in French and that I could thus understand.
Has anyone heard the song by Judy Collins simply called Che?
nymph April 27th, 2005, 10:01 AM Not heard of the song yet. I've only known Che from the millions of t-shirts. :D
