12-Year-Old Boy Attacked By Pair Of Pit Bulls

April 1st, 2005, 12:57 PM
SAN ANTONIO -- A 12-year-old boy is recovering Thursday from injuries he suffered from a pit bull attack in his West Side neighborhood.

Christopher Mendoza says the pit bulls that attacked him were loose, something the owner of the dogs disputes.

Christopher Mendoza said he was on his way to play basketball with his friends Wednesday in the 300 block of South San Ignacio Street when two pit bulls came after him.

"I tried to run but they ... got me on my foot and they started biting me," Mendoza said from his room at Wilford Hall Medical Center.

A man saved Mendoza from being more seriously hurt by hitting the dogs with a brick. He suffered a broken forearm and wounds to his right leg and lower extremities but he is expected to make a full recovery.

This pit bull is in Animal Control custody for now.

Mendoza said the dogs were running loose, which the owner of the dogs disputes.

"Nobody's scared of my dogs," Evelyn Sanchez, the owner of the dogs said.

Sanchez was cited by Animal Control for not having the dogs on a leash.

The dogs are in custody of Animal Control for the time being.

Sorry. If the dogs were loose then Miss Sanchez...I am afraid of your dogs and of you.
