I'm new to this site so I'm not sure I'm posting this right, but I hoped someone would have some help for my barking dog. She is a 6 month old, recently spayed, mixed breed. Over the last 2 months she barks incessantly at strangers. Her hair stands up and she seems to get agitated with someone new around. She has never acted like this to those of us she knows but this makes me wonder if she would bite strangers (or non-strangers). Any help would be appreciated.

Where is she and where are the people when she barks? Does she do this on walks?

It sounds like a fearful reaction and puppies do go through fear stages.

What do you do when she does this barking?

Are you able to tell us what mix of breeds your dog is? I have a little barker but that is common is Eskimos - but his hair does not stand on end when he is barking simply for the sake of it. Hair standing on end running down the spine of a short haired dog is another matter - say a hound mix. I have been working with my Eskimo by putting myself between a person approaching and asking him to "sit pretty" and "no bark" - and of course having cookie in hand. Picked this up from NILIF site - I use just a few of their training suggestions - some for me are just too hard - as in "eat when I say" - dog is more likely to put my husband on NILIF.
