I just got a call from EI (employment insurance). Good news, I qualify so I will get some money before my new job starts.
The bad part is they called my new employer. Now I feel all embarassed... They needed to confirm the offer was "solid" from them. I hope I didn't make them look bad.
I just email my new employer to apologize. Grrr...

i was surprised too. They said they had to confirm that the offer was "solid" for me to get benefits.

They checked with your new employer to ensure that you had not "just quit" your old job and were trying now to obtain UI. Since you had the firm offer, you gave your notice and quit - did things by the book - so not your fault.

yeah that makes sense.

I am glad you are eligible for benefits. Your situation is totally beyond your control. I think it is a good thing EI called your new employer, whats thier problem anyway? You quit a good job to work there.

Yeah...well, it's all working out now. All I hope is that I get some $$$ before the end of March...otherwise I will have to dip into my line of credit which I DO NOT want to do.
