A man who broke a puppy's leg by slamming it against a wall was sentenced yesterday to a month of house arrest and a year of probation.
Ontario Court Justice Bernd Zabel ordered Tom Dean, 45, not to have any animal in his possession for the duration of his sentence.
Dean must also pay $3,689 to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to cover the bill for setting the dog's leg, which was broken in three places.
Dean pleaded guilty March 1 to animal cruelty.
After the dog knocked over a Christmas tree on Dec. 21, Dean picked up the puppy and tossed it against the wall.
