We have quite a few cotton tail rabbits that visit our back yard nightly.

Thanks raingirl.
It is a very strange sight to see, I thought someone was pouring windshield fluid all over my yard, but upon closer inspection, I only saw rabbit tracks, so knew that it had to have come from them !!!

I had a Dwarf Netherland bunny and his pee is the same colour as say a cat or a dog. But much stronger - anyway, I'll spare you the specifics, lol But blue??? That seems unlikely - I wonder if these rabbits are eating something that is causing this and whether it is good for them?

I found this on a site about cotton tails and this is what it says about their urine: The normal urine pH is 8.2. The urine of young rabbits is free of precipitate but albuminuria is normal; the urine of mature rabbits is cloudy due to the presence of ammonium magnesium phosphate and calcium carbonate crystals. The color may vary from tan to reddish-orange, the latter color being due to the presence of porphyrin and bilirubin derivatives.

Now I wonder why it is blue. Is there anything you can do to help them?

they all look relly good, good coats, hop really fast, they seem to be really healthy and happy!!! I have a regular who comes every night, I call him and he will actually move a little closer and stand on his hind legs, and I feed him carrots or other produce, they really love banana's!
But don't know why they pee bright blue?? and they all do (as I never see yellow spots in the snow) it's always blue

I have a netherlands dwarf as well and her poop will turn whatever color her food has been (ie, carrots=ornage, broccoli=green). So whatever thay've been eating has been blue. I don't know what is available in blue unless they for into a florist's garbage that was full of blue plants?

Sorry, I probably should have included a link.

Aparently the pee isn't blue, it is normal colour, but turns blue when exposed to sunlight! It's because of a certain kind of plant the rabbit eats (buckthorn I think it said).

So..it's normal.
