bright355 January 29th, 2005, 01:03 AM I have a Female Pitt Bull.
On her 12th day of heat/ bleeding i bred her with a male Pitt wih the intentions of a pregnancy i was told that you can confirm the pregnancy by looking to see if she is still bleeding and if she is not she is most definetly pregnant but it has been 3 days and she is still bleeding although her additude has changed slightly.
So my question is if the dog has mated durring heat and is still bleeding after is she pregnant or do i need to get her stuck again?
Please information needed soon before she goes out of heat.
Thank you hopefull soon o be grandma.
Carina January 29th, 2005, 05:07 AM Your vet is the person you should be consulting about this.
Karin January 29th, 2005, 06:21 AM Rhut Roh........I'm sure this will be another very long thread by the time I get home from work.
Carina January 29th, 2005, 06:45 AM Well actually the better answer would be "take your dog to the vet and have her spayed immediately, pregnant or not."
Nobody should be breeding pitbulls, certainly not someone who doesn't even know the correct spelling of the two breeds of dogs she owns. :)
Seriously, bright....overpopulation of pitbulls (and dogs in general) is a horrendous problem. Why on earth are you considering adding to this?? Really. Do your dog, and the breed in general, a favor. Schedule her for a spay right away.
I'm sure other more pitbull-savvy members will give you the horrifying statistics on the daily slaughter of wonderful dogs at taxpayers' expense all over the US & Canada.
I assure you not a single person here is going to suggest you get your dog "stuck again."
mona_b January 29th, 2005, 09:31 AM Ditto on what Carina said.
PLEASE PLEASE get her spayed.
A few questions for you.
How old is she?Is this her first heat?Has she had any health and genetic testing?Temperment Tested? Is she a Champion or Titled? Is the Sire? What about the pedigree of your dog and the Sire?
If you love your furbaby, then get her spayed.ASAP
LavenderRott January 29th, 2005, 10:07 AM While actual euthanasia numbers are hard to find, after looking I have found estimates that are as low as 2.4 million dogs and as high as 7.5 million dogs put to sleep in shelters in 2003.
Here are this mornings Petfinder numbers for pit bull breeds:
American Bulldogs 546
Am. Staffs 1567
Bull Terriers 247
Pit Bull Terriers 4452
Staff. Bull Terr. 481
_______
7293
chico2 January 29th, 2005, 10:14 AM Yes Karin,you are right :D
There is no question in my mind what the answer is to this poster.
Unless there is a shortage of pits in Florida and there are none being killed in shelters,no Pit-fighting exists, sure go ahead breed your Pittie
Here, the last I heard hundreds of Pits are being killed every day, people doing their outmost to try to save even one....maybe Florida does not have that problem, but either way adding more unfortunate Pits,is irresponsible and cruel.
If you love your girl-pittie have her spayed ASAP!
Karin January 29th, 2005, 07:14 PM I was expecting a waaay longer thread by this time. Everyone must be away for the weekend, however, I was not let down.
Two weeks ago, in the Orlando area, another Pit Bull fighting club was busted. There was also cockfighting involved. Some people got away in the raid & I'm sure they will resurface somewhere else to start all over.
This is a big problem in Florida too. So far, our laws are more "laxed" as far as PB are concerned..but after that little boy was killed, there are new regulations in the makings.
Leave it to one irresponsible dog owner to ruin a breed and the pleasure of sharing your life with one.
Lucky Rescue January 29th, 2005, 10:23 PM Has she had any health and genetic testing?Temperment Tested? Is she a Champion or Titled? Is the Sire? What about the pedigree of your dog and the Sire?
Mona I'm sure that's all been done - by someone who cannot spell the name of her breed and who refers to a breeding as "getting stuck."
happycats January 29th, 2005, 10:32 PM Hey Bright,
You say you are a student and already have 2 dogs, why would you want anymore??
Don't want to offend you but being a student how will you afford any more?
raising puppie is very expensive.
Please do your dog a favor, and have her fixed ASAP.
Karin January 29th, 2005, 10:41 PM "Getting stuck" was a bright point to this thread...
Education was needed here, but I doubt it stuck.
TWilson9498 January 29th, 2005, 11:12 PM Let's all hope when Bright "gets stuck" she will not raise her off spring with the same mentality as she has. She is probably one of those type people who said hey look, there's a pit in the paper I want it! She goes and gets it, doesn't have much time for the dog because she is a student, therefore gets more animals to keep it from getting "lonely". Then she says hey, I'm broke but I have a pit in heat... bet I can breed her and sale the pups!... You would think someone in school, obviously wanting to better their education would be a bit smarter than this. Before you know it the pups she has were bought by morons who "promise a good home" they begin breeding them and fighting them all over Florida, and bam... you now have 200 dogs, half dead from the fighting, the other half left to continue breeding for money and sick people... Sad... If only dogs could speak, I can bet her's would have more than enough to say... Let's just hope she is not going to school to be a vet, or anything related to education... God forbid sex education....
chico2 January 30th, 2005, 07:53 AM I don't think will hear from"Not so Bright"anymore,I'm just hoping she heeds our advice

Hmmmpphh.
She probably needs the puppy money for extra spelling lessons. For a 24 year old student to have 15 spelling & grammar mistakes in one short post is pretty bad.
All ad hominem attacks aside (sorry) - bright355, the kindest thing you can do for your dog, and for the breed in general, is not allow yet another litter of poorly bred pitbulls into the world.
If you do this, you are part of the problem. Please make the right choice!

This was exactly my first thought before I even finished reading the post!! How truly sad :( . Someone wanting to bring these pups into the world for all the wrong reasons  . Maybe while she is at the vet getting her dog spayed, she should make an appointment for herself too!
Lucky Rescue January 30th, 2005, 10:39 AM Petfinder alone lists 184 homeless pit bulls and mixes in FL, and I have no doubt that number doesn't come even close to reflecting the true number of them.
Another badly bred litter to add to those numbers is not really needed.
Poor dogs. Their owners should protect them and not exploit them on a whim.
mona_b January 30th, 2005, 02:59 PM Mona I'm sure that's all been done - by someone who cannot spell the name of her breed and who refers to a breeding as "getting stuck."
Your right LR,what was I thinking.....
Shamrock January 30th, 2005, 04:49 PM I was just at my local shelter yesterday for the first time in a long time, and my heart just ached to see so many Rotties, Pitbulls and mixes thereof.
It was evident they were by far the largest percentage of dogs in the pens. All abandoned or impounded for some reason, all needing a home.
How may are destined to never find one?
How unbelievably sad to contemplate the staggering numbers quoted and to know that there are still the "brights" out there.
The utterly unconscienceable.
Karin January 30th, 2005, 06:00 PM To me, it does not matter what breed she is breeding. Well, maybe it does play a small part. My biggest complaint is her lack of experience...what's up with that? Zelch experience going on here and now here's comes a litter of puppies..I am sure this litter will be sold against Florida law. If Bright had no concept of breeding, I'm sure the future holds true also for the pups. What a shame...I may see her at the front of the grocery store in about 14 weeks....plus or minus.
