Bite in London,ON

I only caught the tail end of the story last night on the 11:00 pm news that in London,ON a lady was bit by a Pit Bull in the face. She was walking her dog (Rotti) and met a person with a pit bull. She asked if she could pet the dog, the owner said yes and when she knelt down the dog bit her face. The pit owner took off with his/her dog. The lady went to hospital.

That's all I know. I don't think it was an overly serious wound otherwise it would have been a top story. It was announced near the end of the broadcast. They are looking for the Pit Bull and it's owner.

Anyone else hear this story???

Hi there. It made the London Free Press today. Here's the blurb from the paper. Pretty much what you heard.

I suppose it would be way too hard for the writer to say that it can be dangerous to pet any dog you don't know.

Just what the breed needed another idiot owner. Do these people take lessons on how to me the worst owners.

We are only hearing about the "idiot" pitbull owners and there are many bad ones. But there are many owners of other breeds that are just as bad. However a pitbull biting someone makes better press than when a poodle does it. I am not making excuses for the pitbull owner people like this are why we are in this predicament.

I am not blaming the victim so please don't come after me for that. Actually it said the dog bit as she leaned to pat it. Once again people need to learn how ‘they’ need to act around dogs. I know I keep saying it but these types of bites (not attacks) are exactly what the recommendations of the Coroner’s Inquiry into the death of Courtney Trempe would help to prevent. EDUCATION. In the game Doggone Crazy this is taught and most children who have played the game would know better. This type of bite will happen with a poodle, a lab, a cocker spaniel and <insert breed here>.

Today three young girls came running up to my dogs on leash and although the dogs were quite docile they kept trying to put their face to the dogs. I cautioned them more than once and then finally told them we had to go.

What scared me the most: The oldest girl (around twelve) told me her dad said they needed to be down at the dogs face level so they wouldn't’t scare the dogs. Her Dad has advised her very badly.

True, but virtually none of the groups who should have implemented the recs have bothered. And unfortunately they are not mandatory.

Oh I am by no means blaming just pit owners there are plenty of idiots dog owners out there but this breed needs no more bad press. Be nice to see some stories about these wonderful dogs and the good things they do.

I know you weren't, and it would be nice to hear some good news once in a while . Like the story in Florida I heard a while back where 2 Akitas were attacking a little kid and a guy let his Pit go . It attacked both dogs one at a time and they ran off . The kid was hurt and needed surgery but was Ok and the Pit was a "hero" .
I found the story , don't know how to post it but I am trying.

I'm afraid you might as well put that on your list of things to hold your breath for. There are plenty of good stories out there, but the closest you'll find in the papers is they will only refer to it as "a dog". Unless it bit someone, then it is either a "pit-bull type dog" or a "pit bull". Remember all the press that attack in Goderich got, then how much it got when it was determined it wasn't a pit-bull?
