krdahmer January 2nd, 2005, 11:11 AM Fagan went and got neutered in between the holidays, and was back to his regular self that night. His fur is already starting to grow back! He was so brave, the girls at the vets said he didn't even make a peep the whole time he was there. Just lounged around and slept. The others from that litter will all be going sometime in January. I just can't wait till spring... momma kitty is so pretty, she got so much bigger after she had the kittens. There is a third wheel to her and poppa's little group now, a black cat with a tail that seems to want to be part of the gang. I'll have to keep an eye on that one though, it's kinda skinny and very vocal... driving Chase nuts at night. If it's still around in the spring I'll add it to my list. Momma and poppa first though. This warm weather has got me in good spirits, too bad it won't last!
Hope you all had great holiday seasons... I know we all did! :grouphug:
chico2 January 2nd, 2005, 04:57 PM Hi there Dahmer nice to hear from you again,I am happy little Fagan is ok,my cats were never bothered losing their peanuts either...
I checked out the"worlds best litter"at my store as you said, but it was $49.75+15% tax  The tiny little bag was $17.00,but I would need the big bag....waaay to expensive  Between, birdseeds, corn for my squirrells,cat-food etc...no way can I afford $50+ for cat-litter,so back to the drawingboard :(
Iggette January 2nd, 2005, 06:02 PM ok I missed something......are these stray cats?......How nice of you to care for them  ......are you in a farm area?....your house sounds like mine....lol :thumbs up
chico2 January 2nd, 2005, 11:17 PM Iggette :D No,Dahmer does not live on a farm,but I think she could use one,soon :thumbs up
whinnie-boo January 3rd, 2005, 05:02 PM Chico2 - Couldn't we all use a farm house?
We should just open the PETS.CA animal sanctuary, since we're all here together all the time anyway.
chico2 January 3rd, 2005, 05:17 PM Whinnie-Boo,that's a great idea....if I only was 20 again or at least 30,I would dedicate my life to helping unwanted animals....too late now  but I do what I can with any animal crossing my path,no matter what they are
Bugsy January 3rd, 2005, 06:43 PM Okay, I couldn't resist... :p
krdahmer January 4th, 2005, 02:56 PM Oh too cute with the peanut man there Bugsy!!! And Chico....holy carp is your store overpriced!!!! I get the 17 lb bag for about $17-20 from PetSmart. I did check my local pet store and they too were overpriced. I want to see if PetSmart here in St.Kitts will order the larger 34lb bags... if not I may shop online....way cheaper even in American $...the trick is finding someone that ships up here and doesn't charge a fortune!
And as for that farm idea....NO KIDDING!!! Do I need a bigger house like yesturday! I have a three b/r, two bath ground floor apartment, and for now it is big enough for me, my hubby (trucker), and our 4 little beauties. And I do have a spare bedroom that I used to take in the stray kittens and rehome them. In the spring I am planning to take in the kittens' parents, who eat here on our porch every day for about 13-14 months now.
I have to say that stories, people and posts here at Pets.ca were what inspired me to do more, to actually take an active role in the wellfare of these critters. I always had the heart, (I couldn't help it when I saw these two that were kittens at the time eating from a garbage I had left out), and now I have the know-how! And the support of the wonderful people here on this board! ;)
Now, I am not so concerned with a fancy house in the city, I want to make sure that I have the grounds space for a building that I can use just for stray animals. Perhaps get into fostering full time. And these cats that come to visit every day are going to find warm and loving homes, I'm gonna see to it. I was just thinking the other day that I wish this sort of option was offered to us in school, I always thought that to work with and help animals you had to get into the medical parts of it. I had no idea that you could help just by offering these animals your home, your love and affection and most of all your patience. I feel now like I have found a "calling", like all those years of faltering in school, not knowing which direction to go, actually in a way prepared my for my new "profession".
Of course this all would not be possible without that hunky and big hearted hubby of mine, who of course funds all of this! :o If it weren't for him understanding me and having a heart as big as he does... I don't know where I'd be right now... not to mention that there would be 5 more strays still wandering the streets here. He is my hero, and I know how lucky I am to have found him. :D
Anyhow, my dribbly "New Year" speech is over now...LOL and Kudos to Pets.ca!!! :thumbs up
chico2 January 4th, 2005, 04:40 PM Dahmer, you got me a little confused(does not take much!!)but you mention St Kitts,is that where you are now?????
I am going to check out Pet-Smart and see how much they charge for the litter,I am ok with $17-$20...but $50 is too much.
Usually my store Ren's Pet-Depot,is cheaper on everything, since they supply other pet-stores,so I dont really understand
I know what you mean with having a calling,I too feel a drive towards helping animals, any animals and get great satisfaction knowing I've made a difference, there is no greater feeling :thumbs up
I was watching about feral cats in Toronto yesterday, apparently there is a problem..I don't know what kind of problem the cats can cause,but...
Anyway, they have killed 600 feral cats in Toronto, others have been rescued by citizens, who feed them and catch them to be neutered/spayed and then let lose again. They figure if a good program would be in place to sterelize them, they would eventually die out...but the city has other ideas.
Here in Oakville where I live,I know where every single cat I see lives, only yesterday I saw a little black female I've never seen before and I'll keep an eye out for her,if she comes back..
My husband is supportive to a point,he loves our cats(not $300 dental-cleaning-bills)he also loves to watch all the different birds we get at our feeders and he thinks FiFi my squirrell is amazingly smart and also that I recycle left-overs to the crows,so he does not have to eat it :D
krdahmer January 5th, 2005, 11:31 PM No no I'm still in Niagara Falls, but we sometimes venture over to St. Catherines (St.Kitts) to hit Costco and PetSmart and we love the Kelseys there too. I've found that they offer a lot of things in larger quantities at lower prices. And although I would love to support a local business, I can't afford to pay what local pet stores charge for this stuff! Plus I got Chase's aquarium there for Christmas....and now that it's all set up we get to go Fishy shopping on the weekend! I'm not a big fish person, but I'm sure I'll warm up to them. I can just imagine how excited the kitties'll be too...  Anyhow catly duties call... ;)
