Schwinn December 22nd, 2004, 11:31 PM I only caught the last part of this, but a bag of bullets was found in Toronto, with a message on it about being for the pitbulls. These are the kind of idiots that Bryant is bringing out of the woodwork!! Did anyone else see this story, I don't know much more than the last 15 seconds.
ancarett December 23rd, 2004, 08:17 AM Story's up over at City Pulse:

Edit to add: The message on the bag said "Rx against pit bulls"
chico2 December 23rd, 2004, 09:46 AM Sick,sick,sick people...
Schwinn December 23rd, 2004, 12:40 PM So far, I haven't seen this in any other media outlets. Don't want to be all "conspiracy theory" and everything, but is it possible that this is because of the anti-pitbull slant most media seems to have? "We don't want anti-pitbull people looking bad!"
Dukieboy December 23rd, 2004, 12:47 PM I don't think you are being paranoid, I think you are quite right. Sorry.
This really messes my head. I take Duke to Riverdale, not so much these days but alot in the warmer weather. We meet up with my Daughter who has Dukes sister and they play at the very bottom of the park. It is a good thing that when we do go there are at least four of us.
whinnie-boo December 23rd, 2004, 12:52 PM I'm willing to bet they don't investigate further....this is what Bryant wants to happen, as far as he's concerned, this is one more notch on his belt.
Loki December 23rd, 2004, 12:58 PM I agree. I don't think you are being paranoid either. I think many media outlets know that they are just as responsible for this stuff as Bryant.
The media knows it's hands are dirty. The media would typically be all over a politician that is as big a screw-up as Bryant. Look at how they jump all over other politicians that get "caught." Bryant sold them alot of papers.
Bryant lied, but the media presented it as truth.
To admit that Bryant is wrong, they must admit that they were wrong. I don't think most of the media is willing to do that.
The only other place I heard it was on 102.1 the edge. But that isn't really a surprise- One of the guys( Jason AKA Danger-boy. I think) on the morning show owns a bull-mastiff.
Schwinn December 23rd, 2004, 01:07 PM I'm willing to bet they don't investigate further....this is what Bryant wants to happen, as far as he's concerned, this is one more notch on his belt.
I agree that Bryant wants this to happen, but I think they will investigate. Those look to me like hand gun bullets (I'm not an expert, so I could be wrong). Very, very few people have a legal reason to have those, so there are several issues here. Besides, cops don't like idiots, regardless of the reason or cause. Even if a cop would be glad to see a pitbull get shot, they don't want this person who obviously has a brain slightly smaller than a walnut firing off thier gun and missing!
whinnie-boo December 23rd, 2004, 01:15 PM Schwinn I hope your right, for the sake of my daughters I hope your right.
I'm just so fed up, its getting to be that I have to keep them hidden for their own safety and not the safety of the public. My 2 would never hurt a fly, but apparently, I have to worry about some physco shooting them in the park? I'd like to see what comes of this discovery.
lezzpezz December 23rd, 2004, 01:21 PM This just smacks of Withrow Park dog poisoning to me! If the person(s) put a bag of bullets out with such a note, I wouldn't at all be suprised if there is gun that goes with it. And we all know how easy it is for the average public to distinguish a pit bull from other breeds! I am very worried for anybody with a dog that remotely, (or not even remotely!), resembles a pit bull and lives in that area. Please keep your eyes and ears open when walking your beloved pets. Carry a cell phone with you if you can, just in case. I am really getting a bad hate on for Mr. Potato Head, Michael B!!
Copper'sMom December 23rd, 2004, 01:27 PM I couldn't beleive it when I saw it on CP24!! I hope the police will investigate this situation.
Living in a big city sure is different from rural areas and small towns! I'm very lucky that I have never been given dirty looks and harrassed as you big city folks have. It'll be pretty sad when we have to walk our dogs with bullet proof vests and helmets on our dogs and us!!
whinnie-boo December 23rd, 2004, 02:07 PM I can't wait to move out of the city and away from all this garbage. Everyday, every story, and every posts about Pitbulls makes me more and more angry.
For their safety and enjoyment, I'm moving out of the city A.S.A.P.
Since they aren't allowed or welcomed in public places, and I know that they understand that something is going on & sense that they are not liked by most. It breaks my heart to see the look in their eyes when people pass them by or turn the other way from them. I really fear they WILL get a complex from the negativity.
Be thankful you don't live in the city. :(
Schwinn December 23rd, 2004, 03:12 PM I feel for you, Whinnie! We've been lucky to not have too many negative comments. When ever I'm in the city, and I see someone with a pitbull, I usually tell them they have a nice dog, and ask if I can give him a scratch. I know it's not much, but the surprised look I get is kind of bitter sweet (I'm sorry they're surprised, but I feel good that I made them feel good). I've been told I look like a cop, so I don't know if that's it or not, but I think we need to let them know not everyone is mad at them for having thier dog.
whinnie-boo December 23rd, 2004, 03:39 PM I would be one of those shocked owners, if asked if someone could pet my kids. They of course want nothing more then the attention & affection of every person who passes them on the street. Most times people jump away if my girls even so much as sniff in their direction.
I get upset cause I know what wiggle-butts they are and how harmless they are. Before this BSL came into the news, everyone would stop and ask what kind of dog they were, and pet them, and tell me how beautiful they were. Now they all run the other way.
I hope Bryant is happy with the fact that he has done nothing but instill hate in most people who do not have personal Pitbull experiences to base their own opinions. My own Mother was terrified of Pitbulls and when I first got Whin, refused to visit, or allow her at her house. After a while of my not visiting, she came to meet Whinnie (shortly after she had her litter) When she saw how gentle Whinnie was, how she let Buddy (Moms Lhasa) to get into bed with her pups, and let strangers touch them as long as it was accompanied by an "its O.K. Baby" from me. I was very upfront with her about them being my Children, and If the 2 legged Grandchildren can come over, why can't the 4-legged???? She finally started to understand my arguement when she would come over without her dog, and I'd lay into her about how she worked all day, and then went out at night leaving him again, when she didn't have to becuase he was more then welcome and Whin & Boo enjoy his company.
Now, my Mother having her own experiences, is the first to argue when anyone says anything about the breed her GrandDogs are. Which is something I never thought I'd be able to say. My sister has a one year old daughter who used to live with me and the dogs, even my mother uses the arguement that if we were to tie a steak to Nyah and put her in a room, she would trust my Whin & Boo over her own ankle biting Lhasa Apso. Now if only we could teach the rest of the world the same examples. It is all how they are raised.
Loki December 23rd, 2004, 04:33 PM whinnie-boo your dog is adorable.
I'm in TO and my experiences have been mixed.
I've had quite a few people come up to me in the park ( mostly people without dogs) and out of the blue and say " Nice to see you guys out here." The park that this happens at had one of the "pit attack" stories that made the news this summer. So it is pretty surprising.
It is a sad statement on our society, but I think women get it a lot worse.
It seems that most of the time it is men, and very cowardly ones at that, that are harassing people. I've gotten dirty looks, but they just overt their eyes once I've made eye contact.
whinnie-boo December 23rd, 2004, 04:47 PM Thank You Loki...
I'll be sure to tell Whinnie what a beautiful girl she is again.....She's know's it though.
I'm happy to say that not all my experiences have been bad, and this BSL has allowed me to meet a lot more Pit-Bulls in my area, and get some playmates for the girls with owners who understand how they play and what they do. And maybe I make a mountain out of a mo-hill when it comes to how Whinnie & Boo are dealing with things. But, They know something is not right, and they know that most people don't like them or are terrified of them. Its not fair to my 2 who have never done anything wrong.
Hopefully, if we all stick together we can turn this all around, and the world will view our dogs as we do.....ANGELS
Schwinn December 23rd, 2004, 05:30 PM I think it's funny that I feel the urge to go with some of the women on here when they take thier pooches for a walk to protect thier dogs...thier big bad mean dogs!
I do think most people are understanding, and I've had many people actually listen to me, even though they started talking about how they think all pits are mean. Unfortunatly, it's the idiots we notice. How often do we notice people who walk by without paying much attention, negative or positive? Keep that in mind the next time an idiot says something. It doesn't make it any less frustrating, but at least it's a small consolation.
Oh, and I think Whinnie is great looking! Give her a rub for me! :)
Akeeter December 24th, 2004, 08:30 AM & Pro BSL people look like the knee jerk, none thinkers that they are?
It's really too bad that Toronto, Ontario media can't even be objective about Dogs? :yuck: It makes you wonder what other axes they have to grind, & viewpoints they have to either hide or push in other areas-?? SCARY!
whinnie-boo December 24th, 2004, 08:34 AM Thanks Schwinn, Whin would love to have a friend join our walk. And I certainly will give my beautiful girl a rub for you, I'll use any excuse to love her to pieces!!
pitbulliest December 24th, 2004, 12:18 PM God bless city TV and screw all the other news networks...that's all I have to say.
