hi, i have a 5 month old wheaten terrier who sleeps in my room. recently, i had to bring my doves in because the pigeon who shared the cage tried to kill them. my door has a t shirt over top of it so that it closes tightly and the dog can't go in unless i am in there. last night she figured out how to open the door and went after my turtle dove and killed him. do any of you have any advice related to saving my other dove from my dog?

You need to keep your bird or other small pets safely caged away from your dog, who after all is a terrier and was bred to kill small animals.

To help with this even more, you need to teach your dog to "Leave it". Even when she learns this, you must never leave her alone with your bird as instinct is very strong and she will not be able to resist.
