Bryant on CNN Dec 7th (TO Star article here)

Here is the article:

War on pit bulls gets global airplay

Attorney-General Michael Bryant's crusade against pit bulls is going global. With his ban on the vicious dogs, the media-savvy Bryant is the architect of the most popular (and populist) legislation in the Liberal government's brief history.

His efforts are being rewarded with an in-depth piece on CNN to be broadcast worldwide tomorrow morning. The American cable network's Ali Velshi, a former CFTO reporter, interviewed Bryant last week.

Once his legislation passes, Ontario will be the first province or state in North America to outlaw pit bulls.

----------------------------------------------------------------
I know this topic was posted in Breed Discussions, but it needs coverage here. Please people, email CNN and tell them how disreputable and autocratic this so called Attorney General is behaving, and how his blatantly dishonest tactics do not befit his office as Chief Law Officer of Ontario!

Please!!! We cannot let the WORLD think that Ontarians are on side with this fascist proposal -- let CNN read our emails and get a taste of the anti-Bryant crusade!

Depending on what show he will air on, here is a link to the contact CNN page. I could not find anything on "Ali Velshi" unfortunately, but sending it to "Other stories/News in General" at this link, may be the most appropriate -- but perhaps put in the subject something like "Ali Velshi's Story on Ontario's Pit Bull Ban Proposal"....

You guys warm my heart! Thanks again.

Look - I found this bio on the CNN reporter, and guess what - he used to work as a business anchor for City/CP24!!! Wow, I hope we can steer him to give Alex Pierson a call - a least she can give him her inside scoop directly. And maybe she could even forward him the footage of the Bryant Gaffe... Whether or not it works, it doesn't hurt to mention his colleague's name... ;)

http://money.cnn.com/ontv/anchors/velshi/

Unfortunately the page does not mention an email address for him, (except through CNN Money, which seems to be an outdated job description...) But it does have a picture - and gee, he "looks" nice enough, I hope he is...

Cheers!

I hope I am posting this in the right place and not out of line posting my letter here. I am new to posting here but took some of the links that Loki posted (thanks) and sent this off (I did have to edit a few words out, as it is pretty lengthy).

Again, apologies for the wordiness, but Bryant just pisses me off too much to let him get yet more airtime and not comment on it.

p.s. Velshi was also a reporter on ROBTV at one time.

Here's the letter as I WANTED to send it (the italised words were removed on the letter I sent):

RE: Interview by Ali Velshi that will air in the morning with Michael Bryant, the Attorney General for the Province of Ontario.

The people of Ontario, i.e the VOTERS, don't want this ban. The EXPERTS, i.e. the Ontario Veterinarian Association and the Humane Societies and Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty toward Animals DON'T want this ban. Even people who have been victims of dog attacks, DON'T WANT this ban.

Michael Bryant wants to see his name in lights, and it's very unfortunate that CNN is going to air something that will make the general population of Ontario look like a bunch of ill informed and irrational idiots.

I ask that you view some of the information found at these links:

Here, Michael Bryant is unable to even identify the breed of dog he is determined to help put into extinction and condemn to torture (they moved the picture on him, so when he selected the number he had memorised, it was the wrong dog):

http://www.pulse24.com/News/Top_Sto...08-013/page.asp

At this link, you will see that Mr Bryant condemns the breed, when in fact, it wasn't a pit bull attack at all:
http://www.pulse24.com/News/Top_Sto...26-014/page.asp
Of course, there was no comment from the ill-informed lawmaker when it was apparent that he was wrong...AGAIN.

Here is a poll where you will see, that the public is against Mr. Bryant's so-called law that is 'best for the people'(please scroll down, but you will see that 98% of the voters voted against Mr. Bryant's ban):
http://www.lgprovpc.ca/

At this link, you will see some of the 14,000+ electronic signatures against the ban:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?newban2

At this link, you will see that Mr. Bryant, in an attempt to sway the votes the way he would like to see them go, started his own petition. You will also see how he used the taxpayer's money to assist him when he used his aide to make phone calls to help swing the vote his way:
http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1100818210903&call_pageid=968256289824&col=968342212737&DPL=IvsNDS%2f7ChAX&tacodalogin=yes

At this link, you will see that Mr. Bryant's law 'defies logic' (however, it is getting him some much desired air time), and how the experts, "including scientists at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control who have investigated the problem, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Canada Safety Council and the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association." (to quote the story), disagree with his 'logic':
http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1098741009611&call_pageid=968256290204&col=Columnist969907626796

This might also assist you in researching just how 'knowledgable' Mr. Bryant is on this issue:
http://www.dogwatch.net/fight_ontario_ban/michael_bryant.html

I really do hope that more is discussed on this issue on your network...I do trust, that unlike Mr. Bryant, your reporters take the time to interview and discuss the REAL FACTS with the actual EXPERTS who know what they are talking about and not just some lawmaking politician who wants his name in the history books.

Mr Bryant, and his political party, are reminiscent of another political force in history who also used the excuse that the laws they were making were "for the good of the people".

Fortunately, that didn't turn out so well for the Nazi's and hopefully, at the rate they are going, the Ontario Liberals will be a one term government that one day, we can all forget about. However it saddens me to think of the damage to families who will not only lose their pets, but to the people of Ontario who will lose the freedom to know that when they leave their homes, their pets, or even their front door, might not be there when they return.

This law of Mr Bryant's is not only bad for thousands of innocent dogs who may be destroyed or condemned to a life of torture in the cells of laboratories, but also for democracy, and the freedoms that many men and women died for over 50 years ago. He is evading the fact that he is removing the rights of the public by stating that officials can enter a home without a warrant, a basic right and freedom that many don’t realise they are about to lose.

Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. I am very sorry that CNN and Mr Velshi, are giving him the undivided attention that he so craves without also giving equal time to those who really are in the KNOW about this issue.

Great letter. I also emailed and gave the info about the interview with Alex at City TV. I sent a link to the letter demanding his resignation and also sent a link to the THS petition. I let them know that the majority of residents of Ontario do not support this ban but do want more owner responsibility. I also sent a draft of the bill and highlighted the section on menacing dogs (any breed) so they realize that this means your Lab or Chi it doesnt matter if your neighbour hates you or your dog you are screwed not in that language but you get the gist. CNN needs to know that we are following this publicity hound wherever he goes to see himself in front of the camera. The one thing we should have mentioned was Clayton Ruby taking up the legal side for the anti BSL groups. Obviously there is constitutional issues with this law and everybody can see those and there are more I am sure we dont see.

And thanks again to Loki for posting the links I put in my letter.

Stupid way to end the story and I still have to wonder what it has to do with Veshi's forte. This guy is part of a pretty hard-core group of financial reporters. Unless Bryant is trying to convince corporations that Ontario will be the safest place to live in North America once the pit bull is gone, so they can all bring their business here???

Too bad there won't be any dog lovers (or anyone who values freedom) left in the province to work for them or buy their products when they get here.

I would love to know what the American viewers thought of the idiot.

Thank you, for taking the time to put Bryant in his place.

No Problem. Thanks to everyone who is out there spreading the word...there's too many clauses in this so-called law that too many people just aren't willing to hear.

Bryant's not listening to us, but as more people join the fight, its going to become awfully hard for him and the Fiberals not to realise just how deep they are digging their own grave.

I have a feeling that Veshi is doing a favour for Bryant. Why else would the financial reporter be doing the story? Not only that, he didn't present much in the way of facts, from what I hear.

Oh, and Pitbulliest, I don't think it made it past the website, yet.

It goes with my truck, the RED RANGER!! (I happen to have a red Ford Ranger, and one day I was telling someone to look for the "red Ranger" in the driveway, and realized it sounded like a super hero. I now have a nephew who likes to yell out like a cartoon, the "RED RANGER!" Okay, sometimes it's me. I think I'll make a comic book about it..."The Red Ranger and his sidekick, Fatboy!"...erm, maybe not)

The Star is definetely following the leader on this one . It is quite obvious that they are in favour of whatever party is on top at the moment . I am also quite sure they will be the first to condemn the liberals once the polls start showing they are dropping in popularity . It is called business I suppose , try to be on the side of what your stats show most of the readers support.
Schwinn If you find an e address to the star please post it . Thanks

The Star is the Liberal mouth-piece/propaganda machine. It is predictable that they would be onboard for this.

They were the ones who stated that it was good that Dalton McIdiot broke his word regarding the new Health tax. Lap-dogs.
