Hi all,

I recently aqquired a new kitten that was very skinny and in poor health. I have nursed him back to health and he is gaining wieght and looks healthier. Today I noticed his whiskers are broken off. Does anyone know what could have caused this? His hair on his belly seems to be a little coarser than the rest of his body. Is there something I could give him or add to his diet?

Thanks Mel

His whiskers will grow back but keep in mind cats need their whiskers. I quote from a cat care site: "Whiskers are extremely sensitive as they are closely connected to the nervous system. Any damage to his whiskers will cause your cat discomfort, and he may become confused or disoriented. DON'T ever trim his whiskers, and DON'T ever wash them, he will keep them clean himself."

Just watch his balance and those kind of things and give him lots of TLC! It is wonderful you are taking care of this kitty!

Skinny kittens with coarse hair could have parasites. Have you had him checked for worms?

I should have thought of the worm thing too Lucky but I always assume everyone brings cats they find or kittens to the vet asap. Have you had your vet do a fecal check for worms FGirl?

Good luck with your new pet!!
