Turkish Vans??

December 2nd, 2004, 04:23 PM
I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on Turkish Van cats.
I got my one cat as she was a stray, but when someone came into my house the other day, her first words were, "You have a Turkish Van! I've always wanted one of those, so beautiful!" However, I'm not so certain. What does a typical turkish van look like? I think it's just because of her strange markings that this person mistook my mixed-breed kitty for a turkish van, but don't know for certain. If anyone could give a description or post some pictures of a turkish van, that would be great.

So if you wanted to find out if you have one, and you threw your cat in the know what, I'm not even going to go there...

In the last two pictures, the animals almost look stuffed.

Well, she does like water Schwinn....
No, I won't throw her in the pool. Thanks for the link mastifflover, I'll go take a look.

Looking at those last few pictures, there didn't really seem to be any distinguishing marks on them. Or did I miss something? It seemed to be more a personality trait than anything else.

Schwinn, their markings are really not all that different, but they are restricted to the head and the tail. Same with my kitty.
She's definitely got a shorter coat though, and doesn't have the fox-like tail, so, thinking maybe she's got some Turkish Van in her, but mixed with something else.

Anyway, here are 2 Turkish Van pictures, and then is my cat. Same type of marking pattern, so it's a start.

I don't know about cats and breeds, but I would say that, as you say, it is probably some mix (I'm going by your description and the picture in you banner. This picture you posted didn't work for me)

LOVE the swimming cats!! Wish I could teach Yin Yin to swim in the pool, hehheh

All I can say is while Yin Yin is not crazy about water (You should hear the Siamese yowl when the water is running and she is in close proximity and thinks it might even be for her but that does not stop her from inhabiting the sink, lol:

(This is not the best picture tho, there are strong lights in the bathroom that make her fir appear much whiter than it really is. ) But she does beleieve the sink, like everything else in the house, belong to her, lol

I have added another picture of her in the Pictures section. (I marvel every day at how fast she is growing, sigh!!!)
